I have made the same trip for 3 years in my 2017 Tundra and then my 2020 Tacoma every day to my horses barn, it has always been 9.1 miles. On my new 2022 Tacoma Sport it registers 9.3 miles. This extra almost 1/4 mile every 10 miles adds up after a lot of miles. Anyone had this same problem? i have not been back to the dealer yet as I only have 150 miles on it. Of course anytime I had an issue, the dealer always just says, couldn't duplicate, so I hope they start addressing issues. thanks for any help.

GPS can also be finicky. I hike a lot and will track the route with 3 different GPS units and all come out with different elevation gain/loss and distances by margins that are hard to explain. Even using two different apps on my phone, so they're using the exact same GPS unit just calculating totals differently, will come out more than a mile off on a 10 mile hike.

My first thought is, I'm not sure if I would assume the first truck was the right one (unless I had confirmed it with other cars or some more exact measurement). GPS might be an interesting data point, but it can also be a bit inaccurate as well. But, more data points don't hurt.

The smaller your measurements are, the easier it is for error to add up. If you really want to know how far off (if at all) the ODO is you will have to do a long trip. Jump on the interstate, zero the trip meter out at the first mile marker, drive 50-100 miles and then check the ODO again. My bet is its damn close. Assuming your tires are stock size that is

It's a ~2.2% difference. Do the 2020 tacoma and 2022 tacoma sport have the same tires? The same axle ratios? Just inflate your tires until your odo reads 9.1 miles, or stop doing so many burnouts in the sport :).

Also, try using GPS on the highway and monitor speed for a while, noting the discrepancy between the speedo and the GPS. It would be interesting to see which truck is closer.

So if this turns out to be a Million mile Tacoma, it might be off by 20,000 miles.
Forgive me, but I'm not seeing the problem here, and I don't think the dealer will either.

Mileage is only an approximation based on sensors. Different vehicles with different sensors made by different manufacturers are going to produce slightly different results.

I wouldnt worry about. Just keep enjoying your truck and perfom service at regular intervals.

Just to piggyback on this actual math, it comes out to 306,600 miles instead of 300,000 miles, which is a reasonably attainable goal on these trucks. If you're averaging 12k miles a year like most people it would take 25.5 years to hit that goal.

I also don't see an actual problem, if this is even considered a problem or is just within the operating margins.

Maybe the older truck odometer was wrong and this one is correct? Also if you have another vehicle set the trip on that and see how it registers.

Maybe the Tundra has taller tires than stock and the Tacoma has stock tires?

Plus you are only gaining 22 miles per 1,000 miles. Say you drive 10,000 miles each year that would leave you at only 220 "extra miles"

Did you go up sidewall height, 65 to 70 or 70 to 75 series, on your Tundra and ‘20 Tacoma?

    This.

Your accuracy expectations are too tight for the real world tolerances on OEM vehicles.
