I have a question for the folks who live in Owens Valley, or those who've visited in the last few days. What's the current snow level on the Eastern Sierra side of the hill?

Welp, it looks as though I'm probably not going to get up north again this season. I ordered some jerky and bacon though, which is the next best thing to stopping by Mahogany Smoked Meats on an adventure. Coupon alert! Though they've been out of Indian style jerky for months, one of my favorites.

That is highly variable. The east side of the Sierra's is holding snow to prolly 10-11K elevation. It is very dependent where you go though. It can hold lower than that in certain areas, such as canyons and ravines. Anywhere that doesn't get much direct sunlight can/will hold snow.

If Aberdeen is roughly 4000', then it kind of looks like the snow starts ~6-7000', no?

I'll be up there mid-week next week, planning fun stuff to drive, but trying to stay at lower elevations.

    South facing 10K is thick.
North facing 8K can be thick.

The elevation and aspect changes so rapidly here you can be in 3" of snow one mile and 3' of snow the next mile. lol

I'm not sure if they are top secret, but some of them are hard to find. I've been blessed to befriend some 30+ yr locals that definitely know their way around the area that's for sure

I've only done one of them. Saying it was hard is an understatement. No-bypasses either. Things broke, beers where drank, things where fixed, more beers where drank. lol

I've heard about them and never been on them. I know some of the mines on the west side are really, really hard to get to anymore.

Does anyone know if Bristlecone forest is open during this time of the year? I’m heading up to Mammoth and thinking about checking the place out.

Checking out some mines in the Inyo Mountains, roughly 800-900' above the valley floor. While up there, I saw several military jets fly by, all below my elevation.

Did not but there was a nice fire ring ready to go, flat/level tailings for your tent, plus protection from winds on three sides.
