I'm having the same issue of the paint flaking off. Both of the backdoors the paint is flaking off. I went to the dealership to see what they could do. They power washed it and took pictures to send in to Toyota for approval. I got denied. I have owned Toyotas for years and never had this problem. Here are just a few pictures of the doors.8.jpg 7.jpg 6.jpg

I believe most of Toyota’s colors are 2-stage. That being said, the super white is single stage, and therefore thinner. It doesn’t stand up as well to “life”. They know about the problem, but I think they have a 5year warranty, don’t quote me. Most in your situation end up paying for a respray themselves.

That's has nothing to do with film thickness and the number of stages. That is a primer adhesion issue. That green color you see is the E.D. coat, which is under the primer. Primer for 040 is white. So if it was a base coat issue you would see the white primer not the green E.D

common problem with super white trucks and Toyota wont own up to it on the Tacomas. my 2012 has a little flaking off on a door.

at some point in the future im just going to wrap the truck

That is why I’d never buy a white Toyota unless it’s a 3 stage.

Have a bit of that on my white 2015 but it looks more like rock damage and normal wear and tear than the obvious flaking you show.

I plan on repainting at 10 yrs anyway

Sorry to see it is happening to you as well. Toyota issued a repair notice to repaint all of its models in super white except for the tacoma. The best thing you can do is call corporate and start a case with them. They will tell you there's nothing they can do but you will be on file. I've called twice now and they said until there are more complaints, they wont fix it. If you do end up repainting, they will theoretically reimburse you if they ever do issue a fix for tacomas. Its happening and spreading fast on my 2015 as well. It started in 2020 for me. The exterior of the passenger doors by the window sills are all flaking. The interior driver door jam is flaking off like yours. It is also starting to flake in random places in the engine bay as well. It's sad Toyota won't stand behind their product because they really do produce a great truck. It will most definitely sway people to venture out to other brands in the future.

I wonder what their reasoning is for not including Tacomas also. I have a couple spots but they don’t look like flaking just rock damage. possibly here but this looks like normal 7 yr wear to me

That’s not the typical super white paint failure. I agree with you when you say that looks like wear/damage that is starting to rust.
The super white paint failure = paint flaking off in chunks typically around the side window frames/sills, under the hood and door jambs. Lots of threads on here regarding this issue and clear coat issues with other colors. Just search paint failure.

I wonder what Toyotas explanation would be for not offering the repaint on the Tacoma if you are having same issues as other Toyotas with same paint ?

so far my paint seems good 2015

I have a 2014 TRD Sport super white access cab with the same problems. My paint is flaking off on the driver and passenger front doors between the window track molding and the edge of the door. Same thing where the primer is not sticking to the paint and you see the green grey primer below. Frustrating

Someone should set up a virtual petition to send to Toyota.

makes no sense they offer repaint on other models using same paint with same issue.

Others have stated Toyota is not offering a service campaign for tacomas yet because there are not enough reported claims.

Possibly less of the affected batches of paint made it to Tacomas ?

if it’s same paint as other models , and Toyota must know if it is, they should step up. They must have it by VIN which trucks they suspect got bad paint.

    I feel your pain

Had this same problem with a 1992 White GMC truck I owned from new

White paint failed to bond with primer

GMC didn't care after I contacted them

If Toyota isn't willing to help

Consult a body shop for paint touch up or repaint

I suspect there are a lot more white tacomas out there than most other models in the same color due to the sheer number of white tacoma base work trucks there are. Probably a cost-cutting method to fix the majority of customers issues while leaving the tacomas stranded.

Sure but having fleets of Tacoma’s with peeling paint out there is not a good look for Toyota. I have not noticed it here and lots of white Tacoma’s.
