There are two spots in that pic that are washed out where the dropoff is like dropping off a curb.

A few years ago there was a hole that was knee deep and 3 feet long.

    A picture is deceiving

I believe you will find that is plastic (nylon) as well.

Grab a package of grease fitting caps at NAPA, etc.

My first LT was a TSC Huskee MTD and had the same fittings and bushings. I beat the ever loving hell out of that mower mowing 3-4 acres of fields weekly and hauling my dump cart thru the woods loaded with firewood. I kept those greased and I think I replaced the bushings 1X in 15 or so years of abuse.

That is reassuring! My old Scotts wasn't fancy by any means. I never checked... But I'm sure it also had bushings instead of bearings and I beat the absolute snot out of that thing out of spite. They may have been metal but I never had any play at all in the front wheels. The steering linkage had no bushings at all, just a metal rod, with no tie rod end, in a hole on the steering arm and it was wallered out so much it needed a bigger washer so the cotter pin didn't pull through.

The nylon/poly bushings should be very easy to replace and if they become a persistent issue, then a bearing upgrade will be in the future. Until then, I'll keep it lubed and roll on.

I'll also get a bunch of those grease caps. That is a great idea anyway.

Wow, MTD cheapened them up a little bit. Mine has actual grease fittings in there, I think? Crap, I'm not going out in the mess of a shed to find out

I think you’re on the right track trying to divert it into the trees, instead of the yard like it is now. Good luck with this project and keep us updated

I had no idea that Fram made a short 3614 filter.

I'm not sure I'm on board with their marketing. These Tough Gaurd versions are rated for 15k miles, yet the filter is half the length of the standard Fram filter. $7 vs $4.

Regardless, it looks to be the same length as a Kohler filter, which I think I paid $14 for a few years ago.

It's not orange, so I'd think that it would make some people happy.

    :rofl::rofl::rofl:

Rated for 15K miles to do what, not rust through??
I don't think I would trust any regular automotive application filter to go 15K.
(Not including OTR truck style applications)

I worked with a fellow who had an old Ford with a 300 six, the filter actually did pinhole from rust. He simply put a new filter on, topped up the oil and motored on.

Yeah, it's retarded to go 15k miles on a filter/ oil change.

Even the Amsoil with a bypass filter guys change the full flow filter earlier than 15K.

Many of the answers to these type of questions on Amazon are that it is not intended to be used as a starting battery

"It is not a starting battery. It is a deep cycle. You probably want a powersport battery."

"The cold cranking amp number would be for an automobile starting battery. This is a deep cycle solar battery. It doesn’t have a cold cranking amp value."

"This battery is made for solar and not to be static. Unlike a car battery this one can be drained and then recharged. Cranking amps applies to car or motorcycle or tractor batteries that use the high end of the charge to start. Not that kinda battery bud."

    Found this:

They are talking Ah capacity, I don't know if the cranking output would follow exactly but it seems a reasonable speculation.

The standard rating for batteries is at room temperature 25 degrees C (about 77 F). At approximately -22 degrees F (-30 C), battery Ah capacity drops to 50%. At freezing, capacity is reduced by 20%. Capacity is increased at higher temperatures – at 122 degrees F, battery capacity would be about 12% higher.

The chart lists max discharge current @77* = 330A, we will take this as cranking amps
    330A - 20% @ 32* = 264A
    330A - 50% @ -22* =165A

We all know lawn mower batteries are shit.

I know that deep cycle batteries can withstand lots of deep drains.

We know if a mower doesn't start after 5 solid seconds of cranking, investigation why not will be required.

This is an experiment to see if I can get more than a couple of years out of the thing.

I'm willing to be educated as well as experiment

What batteries have you been buying? I haven't had a lot of problems with mine. My 2016 XT3 still has the factory battery in it. I recently bought 2 Walmart L&G batteries. One went in my newly acquired Cub 3225 and the other went in my wife's Miata. Got tired of buying $200 batteries that died from sitting over being driven.

My wood chipper came with a completely sealed small battery like I have found in small stand alone UPS units. I got a new one at a local auto electric place. The chipper has a 16HP Vanguard engine, it whips right over. Naturally I only use it in the warmer weather.

Edit: Just remembered the battery is sitting on the bench in the garage:

That looks like the one in my Cub 3205 that was in it when I bought it and still going strong. I thought it might be a gate opener battery or something. It turns the 20HP Kawasaki over just fine.

When ever I buy a battery it goes in the ZT because I haul it all over and it has to start when I get there. The old ZT battery goes in something with a home base that is less inconvenient to have not start.

I buy my mower batteries at TSC, always buy the maximum capacity one and use a tender on them in the winter. They seem to last pretty good.

I have had good luck with these sealed, AGM batteries as well. I have one that has got to be over 10 years old. It just failed.

I want to try the one I listed above to see if it's as durable.
