No kidding? Also very weird because the MT would benefit the MOST from such a feature!
Mine is a manual transmission. Five speed. It definitely has a hill holder feature. And it works in reverse too.

I'm in a different state than my truck right now so I can't look in my actual owners manual (know it's on-line, but that is (or should be) up-dated from 2017) and I'd like to see the actual book which came with the truck. Maybe tomorrow, depending on flights.

Does your manual say if it matters as to whether the nose is pointed up hill or down?

My VWs had it, although after a few seconds or so it would release and roll back.

Alright doll-face, c'mon and bore me!
This one comes up from time to time. Sports have it. TRD ORs and PROs don't because of the brake booster.

Hmmm, didn't realize the '17 had the 5-speed still. I thought all 3rd gen Tacos had the 6-speed MT. It looks like @Ruminator has remembered while you have it and I don't though.

Ohhh yeah... completely forgot about that. It doesn't many any sense, but I do remember seeing that pop up on here before. Hats off to you! I'll have to add that to the list of weird design decisions that make me scratch my head.

@Ruminator to the rescue. Thanks for that.

My wife found my truck as a left-over on a dealer's lot 50 miles away. (a guy ordered it, it never showed up; he went somewhere else, it showed up two days later). She tells me about it, we drive down to see it. Test drove it. Brought it home all in the same day. It was everything I hoped for except the color. But now I love the color too. (VW had just bought back our diesel so I paid cash for the Tacoma, free & clear.) And my smile gets bigger every day I drive it.

Built in Oct'16 in SAT, TX. I bought it Jan'17. Join TW Feb'17 and have been broke every since.
But three pedals, six foot bed, engine built in Japan, access cab, four by four, hill holder, go-pro mount on the windshield to hold my Garmin dash cam, no fob - only key operated (not your taste I know), heated mirrors, and a CD player all put me into a personally perfect set-up! And truly, the list goes on...!

Checked the torque on my front end. Still squeaking like a MF when making slow turns. May be time for new bushings. Also went camping this weekend. 20220409_162958.jpg 20220409_163420.jpg

New member, traded a 17 Golf GTI on this 22 TRD OR DCSB.

Last weekend installed SCS Br6 16x8 -12, definitely will go up 1 tire size when the time comes...
Today, finished up mounting a Pelican V800 vault to 8' Billie Bars.

No pics because it's nothing exciting, but I bought a Bissell Little Green carpet cleaner and used it on my seats. Highly recommend for anybody with cloth seats and pets.

Welcome. Looks like you've already gotten with the program...

    :spending:

Noticed a brand new, bone stock, Sport in the lot at work last week. Debating whether or not I should see if he knows about TW.

And with all the talk I couldn't stand it and had to look in the manual to see what it said. Didn't have much to say except "Helps to prevent the vehicle from rolling backward when starting on an incline or slippery slope". Didn't mention anything about rolling forward, gears or models. @Ruminator post clarifies some of the questions for sure.

So another weird one is: Stay with me here... my truck is key operated only (no fob) and only one door has a key-hole. (I can turn the key twice to unlock the other door, so that's nice.) But the weird part is that this key-hole is on the driver's side door. This is 2017 after all.
My '42 Studebaker also had only one door with a key hole - but it was on the pax side - by design that was so you didn't stand in traffic to open, lock, or unlock the door. That's advanced thinking. That's safe thinking.
As was the pax side wheels having left-hand threaded lugs. Thus they would self tighten when the truck was in forward motion, just as the driver side would in fwd motion. (Along the same thought lines as bolts placed w/ head at the top in vertical applications and at the front in horizontal applications (aka "direction of flight")).

It is weird to me that modern designers skip such elementary precautions.
Of course we'll ignore that the Stude came with only one tail light (driver side), one outside mirror (driver door), and no turn signals (have to use your arm). But it has push-button start! When it was my daily driver, I added another tail light.

    - The one saving grace in my eyes is that the Stude has a bench seat. It is easy to scoot from pax side to driver side. Not so easy with Taco's bucket seats.
