Where's the option for Off-Road Sport? My Off-Road has a scoop, haha.

Pre-pandemic my local dealer might have one Limited compared to 30 other models.

Thinking about it, the demographic of the Limited buyer is probably kind of opposite of the typical TW member.

Seems most folks here say "I settled for" or "I got a great deal on" a Limited and want to make it more like an Off Road.

Alright... iI said it... It seems more people who shouldn't buy a Tacoma have bought a Tacoma and many of them wind up here to ask very basic questions, questions that are just basic vehicle knowledge, not Tacoma specific. How is this possible? How is it possible that someone owns a Tacoma and does not understand basic mechanics?

    3...2...1... :rocket:

We are almost 2 generations into internet and cell phones, these days I don't think many drivers of any make or model know much beyond adding gas and applying stickers -- many can't seem to make the most basic decision without a consensus.

Even with all that knowledge at fingertips folks can't seem to actually research anything on their own, instead they ask inane questions -- don't think to ever read the manual either.

In my younger days I saw ladies use a hair brush to hold a choke plate open on a flooded engine, those common knowledge days are in the past -- and suddenly we are old... :censored:

...Hand me my cane so I can get off this soapbox...

    Rusty,
You make a lot of great points here.

I'll also add that as vehicles have become increasingly complex, fewer people work on them at home. Hell, I don't even want to do it unless I have to but that's my age trying to set in.

Additionally it seems these days lots of people use their car or truck like an appliance. It does its job and nothing else. For people that actually appreciate their vehicles, it's still important to keep it in top condition, add accessories and even keep it clean.

I work running a line that reconditions used cars to sell and can tell you most people don't give a shit about their car other than it gets them from point A to point B.

You can have your soapbox back...

    You are not wrong.

Two generations ago was right about the "tipping point" when those who did their own wrenching on anything became the minority. I do not know many who even do their own engine oil any more.

Those who can drive a manual trans well are rare now, let alone someone who knows what are carburetor is.

Appliances, you hit on it perfectly.

If you are of a particular age you probably can identify with:
That is an expensive musical instrument...
Take your school shoes off and put on you old shoes...
Scrape that mayo jar (etc.) I paid for all of it...
This is a long distance call...

Buying a TV was a big deal because it was big money and having a color TV was something visitors commented on -- go to The Mart and see how much television you can buy for so cheap, :censored: amazing.

We are (now) a society buried in STUFF. One of the biggest business opportunities I missed is storage, every town has dozens of storage places where people pay for years to store household junk.

Folks have completely lost track of "taking care of their money" and appreciating something nice, it is all disposable now -- how many times have you heard "...I broke my phone again..."

    Alright.
I have always wondered why a really good Mexican restaurant cannot make a simple Taco Supreme taste as good as Taco Bell's Taco Supreme.
Everything else is better but Taco Bell has the best soft Taco Supreme.

Things to ponder and @RustyGreen is right. Somehow we all figured out how to get too much stuff.

When my wife and I moved to South Carolina three years ago we took a fuckitall pill and gave most of our stuff to charity. At that time we had been married 35 years and lived in that house 30 years. Sure, we brought sentimental things like pictures but we realized we had a ton of....junk. 20 year old couches, 30 year old lamps etc. So we brought my tools and her kitchen tools and plates and one chest and one headboard. I basically made three trips pulling a 6x12 trailer and we moved in.
Best thing we ever did. Now we have less junk and what we do have is quality stuff. When we buy something new now, we really wait and buy quality, not crap.
