Not sure how to approach this, so gonna wing it...

@7r41lbr34k3r and I dunno what mods deal with marketplace so lemme ask @Daria for guidance...

I know Rick is not in the build/sell mode with these, but this thread has a wealth of info and history of the knob that we used to BS about, would like to continue (the BS parts) but I don't want to pollute the marketplace with none sales related posts.

Guidance requested...from OP and staff respectfully

    It's a fun thread

Hey that was me! I bought it in like two minutes from the post. Sold it (Stainless) after I bought another (aluminum) one.

Yeah, I remember! Hope the knob treated you well in the short time that you had it. When I had my Taco I was thinking of picking up a black one as well and swapping them out periodically to change things up every now and again. It was my favorite mod to the truck.

    A bunch..and no build thread!
I was lucky enough to snag a V1 with a brass core, 1 of 2 he made. I have had people offer to buy it from me several times. It is not going anywhere.

I changed the title of my "build" thread, can just use that for the BS part since I don't have the truck anymore. I do not have a problem merging the two threads in the build section (or even out to the main 3rd Gen forum), but it may confuse a lot of people when they come looking for this original thread.

Rick, did you ever make a 2nd Gen knob? Or is the 3rd Gen knob fully compatible with 2nd Gen MT?

The V2's are compatible with 2nd Gens, but I did make a smaller collar diameter for those ... only because I didn't want to stretch the boot seams. Technically a 3rd Gen knob can work on a 2nd Gen, provided the collar be mounted down the boot farther at a larger diameter. As long as that situation works without pulling the boot taught in any gears it should be good. The difference is minimal between the collar diameters, only about 1/8" difference. I'm just anal like that, so I made a whole different collar for both Gens.

I can't help it. Even at my job today I could take the easy git-r-done way, or the "oh this is neat, and nobody really watches me, so I do what I think is best." I opted for the latter.

And so these 2nd gen collars, I'm assuming there is no stockpile in a warehouse in Albania on them like in War Dogs?

Was given this thing this morning, it is usually manufactured via casting, but everything is an emergency around here so we often make things out of billets. Impractical, but satisfies our customer's time frame.

Anywho ... looks like this thing was whittled with a butter knife. It needs to be replaced.

That's nice work man. We did a quick project on milling in grad school. I'm constantly impressed by the detail and accuracy people like you can achieve.

Thanks! Yeah, there is always room to look up. Guy Brian I work with is nearing retirement, total wizard and I look up to him. The more years we stand in front of this equipment, the crazier things get ... it's pretty awesome to be at about the mid point in my career. I can do a lot, but also see many things I want/need to learn.

But, thinking out loud here, that spare aluminum TRD collar may work ok for 2G?

Here he is making a valve attenuator. We're both usually in the milling dept, so the lathe work is typically done elsewhere, then we finish up. 1200 holes in a bowl shape, counterbored ... every single one at a different depth. And the three windows. He doesn't use CAD at all, just types the programs in by hand using old-school math. Takes him a while, but he gets it.
