Admittedly, I knew it would be iffy going light brown and black with a gray and black interior; but, I didn’t want to go too bold with red and black in a spruce mica exterior. Anyways, still need to tighten the seat bottoms up a little; but, I’m happy with them for the most part. What do y’all think (collegiate affiliations aside)?

Not done today but the last few weeks: (btw, this is my favorite thread, love to see what people do to their truck)
Got a new key. $20 for the key plus $30 to get it cut and transmitter plus alarm programmed with local locksmith. No bad $50 total to get a new working key.

Nice to see another fob case from AJT Designs! https://www.ajtdesign-llc.com/ I've dropped the snap-together style (once is) enough to grab this screw-back option quickly.

Finally got around to buying a ScanGauge and I'm hopeful that having something telling me what my MPGs are in the moment will help get them up a bit. The other features on it seem super cool/helpful. Also check out the mileage, getting close to the 200k club!!

A low mileage engine swap would be a better and cheaper option. I would also get quotes from other local reputable shops.

Been working on a rack that allows the softopper to fold/unfold. It has a pair of hinges. Not quite finished yet. What to add a "box" that matches my roof rack and add secondary hinges that allow it to fold down, parallel to the rear window so i can still haul my dirt bike. But what do you all think so far? Any changes I should make?20220503_230743.jpg

Agreed, but I looked around and 195k 4.0s are going for around $3,800 lol. I'm currently at 128k. I think I'll buy the parts and look around for some help getting it done. :)

250 to fix this dent? It's set up for tomorrow.. he's going to drill a small access point in the flair or depth of the door.

    Thoughts?

I had a dent (not as big or severe as yours) in the exact same location on my access cab, only it was the passenger side. Same deal where an access hole was drilled inside the door. I can't say w/certainty exactly how much I paid, but for some reason I wanna say it was around ~$75. Mind you this was back in 2008 and only a couple months after purchasing the truck brand new. :annoyed:

Yes.. my engine cost $2700 with 3000 miles on it.. had to then buy headers to make it work for $700 and the tools but I think it was worth it

Did it look good? I was fine with the price, but "clutch" is borderline family.. It works? People can pop that out? I've lived with it for 9 years!!!

My son unhitched my 5700 pound sailboat. I should not.. have been towing.. as it slowly rolled forward 4 kids and 4 adults slowed it. That dent was all we got from towing a gigantic sailboat across America.. and one clutch.. we did burn out a clutch

Looked great and can't even tell the door/panel was ever dented. There was some scuffing/scratching of the clear coat from the original cause of the dent (i.e. door ding), but that was easily buffed out.

Are you actually taking your truck to an auto body shop who does PDR or just someone who does it on the side? The guy who did mine was kind of like a mobile PDR service type who traveled to the vehicle (or just bring it over to his place). My initial thought was $250 seems steep, but after taking another look at yours that probably isn't too far out of the ballpark for a dent/crease that size (although I'm sure as usual there'll be some tosser on here saying they could get it done for $25).

That is wise with the 128k miles. If you are going to go that deep then I suggest doing the timing chain set and the cam gear upgrade. I know some people are not well versed mechanically and would bite the dealership bullet. I pity those people. For those people I would exhaust every avenue before paying that high price. Then I would search for a rebuilt engine with a warranty (Jasper, etc) or search for a low mileage used (JDM, etc). With so many Tacomas, 4runners and limited FJ Cruisers, using the 4.0, there must be a better choice than thousands for a dealer hose job.

A little something every chance we get.
Might as well finish the project....

"It easy" they said. "Just use our tools you like, and it just go under old with push. Easy you install!"

OK, so if you Google THIS particular thing, you will find very little, except a TW from @GHOST SHIP , so, props to you sir!

So, why? After all this work? That's as clean as this old stuff will get. Sick of it.

You are NOT tucking stuff into old inserts. No matter the trim tool, not happening. So, you take off the door panels, AND,

That's right. The panel is heat staked in place. He used a 3/8" Speed bit - I used a 7/16" after trying the 3/8". He had important words....PATIENCE, PATIENCE, PATIENCE.
You will bork at least one on each attempt. Not to worry, they are not all needed for support.
After cleaning, I used a #8 screw. 1/2" to start, 3/4" at worst. But. PATIENCE AND CHECK AS YOU GO. I tipped through in a few spots, but, not really visible at a couple feet. And, that happened with 1/2"! The BEST screw is #6, 1/2" tops' because you can easily max out the stakes. JUST DO IT GENTLY, CHECK EACH PROGRESS. Use some double sided tape to hold the insert in position, fasten a couple screws, and turn over and smooth as you go.

Aaaaaand repeat 3 more times. Sorry for the detail, my mind is on my Digest feed! SO, what do we get?
