open your tailgate about halfway and it will come off when you unclamp the cable.

That clamp looks interesting. Do you have to drill anything or does it just screw in somewhere without drilling a new hole.

    None - yet...
This is the first I've read about tailgate locks. Are thefts of Taco tailgates a big issue? Need to know since i work in a very high crime area of Baltimore.

2 bucks cheaper, but uses a allen wrench

the Mcgard tailgate lock uses a individual key that only works for your lock

no one else can remove it without your key

worth 2 more dollars to me

the only thing i dont like about the one above
is it doesn't go all the way around, preatty big opening
so how hard would it be to just force it off?

I would think its alot harder to break the Mcgard clamp.

    Doing both ????

i would think it would be too much,
would have to install the above
and then put the Mcgard lock over it.
    maybe not enough room

    ???????

I would think the key section would not allow the one above to go over it.

you'll destory the tailgate before bending the jimmijammer.

You might be able to do the usual tailgate mod with the jimmijammer around it.

You don't want to find out. It's just easier to prevent. It's easy cash and it takes just seconds. There is no vin number on it so even if you find it there is no way to prove it came off that truck.

Really it should be one of your very first MODS.

Just installed the Gate Keeper. I tried to install it over a hose clamp but the extra dia from the hose clamp kept the Gate Keeper from seating and the mounting hole was slightly off . Looking at it I bet I could pry it off, but I won't try. I'll probably drill the hex out of the bolt to prevent the screw from being removed. One other thing is that stock screw was hard to get out. Had to put the tork bit in a 1/4 socket and use a rachet handle, when it "popped" I wasn't sure if the screw had come loose or if the bit had broken.

I think one of those hose clamps with removable key would be just as good as this and those are 1/10 the cost.
