What Have You Done To Your 2nd Gen Tacoma Today?

So what I have been doing is a drain and fill which really only requires 3 or 4 quarts. Doing a drain and fill is different than a full flush, I don't have the capability to do a full flush. As for how often, I've been slowly working my way through it getting the old fluid out but its been slow going, mainly because I am really busy with work. For reference, I have an auto with the towing package (which to my knowledge doesn't really add much).

 

I don’t have any pics but if you look at your slave cylinder on the side of the trans you will see a plate covering it held on by 3 12mm bolts. Undo those and slide the shield off and out of the way. You will then be able to look into the bell housing and see the pivot fork where the slave contacts it along with the pressure plate and all and the throw out bearing. When the clutch isn’t depressed you will not be able to see any exposed shaft it rides on. When the clutch is pushed down and you take a look in there you will see the shaft exposed that the throwout bearing rides on. It’s not a huge opening but it’s enough to put a flexible grease hose in there and give it some squirts on the shaft. A little bit goes a long way.

This is why the throwout bearing makes noise is because of that shaft it rides on. When you push the clutch in it goes away because it’s contacting the pressure plate. So with that being said if you push the clutch in and lube that part of the shaft and then depress the clutch the throwout bearing will travel back into that now greased area. I then push the clutch in and out a few times to make sure the grease travels around.

I work out of town so I am away from my truck but will be back in town Friday and will have no problem taking some pics for you pinpointing where the grease needs to go and the location of everything.

 

That's a pretty good explanation. I'll give it a go next time I'm working on my truck. That TOB squeak is annoying

 

What rear leaf springs are you on? I noticed you don't have the taco lean like the rest of us. I want to upgrade to the OME Heavy leaf packs eventually to prevent mine from leaning.

Yes that squeak is the worst. Nothing like having a truck we throw money at and it sounding like it’s breaking down idling at a light lol. I’ll send those over to you Friday when I’m back with the truck. Pics always help for sure.

That's a good deal. The only thing I don't like is that it is a direct Chinese knock off. They have been doing this more and more lately where they are ripping off US patents and selling them for a fraction of the price. They might work well or they might not, But they are stealing good designs and US business.

 

Oh definitely, there's a huge quality difference between the two and I'm rocking S2's and Squadrons up front. Just couldn't justify $200 for rear chase lights. Rather spend that type of money on lights facing forward lol.

 

O and I don't blame you at all. I always try to spend less money. I have been ripped off so many times also being that way. Just hate seeing so many knock offs from over there. Hope they hold up alright.

 

I have been dealing with Chinese stealing and copying my designs for the past several months. Have sent cease and desist orders to 15 Chinese eBay sellers and this week have dealt with 7 Facebook Chinese copycat sellers. In my case they have been using my trademark name, my copyright protected images and my copyright protected text. What buyers don't realize is that 26% of every dollar the Chinese sellers receive goes directly to support the Chinese Communist Party. It is different if you buy something from a USA seller that was made in China. That happens. They do not care where they steal ideas from. Apparently they just aren't smart enough to create or design things themselves. I actually saw a video of a meeting in a Chinese plant where they were reverse engineering an American gearbox so they can duplicate the process of manufacturing. In my opinion, if we are cutting off trade with Communist Russia, we should cut off all trade with Communist China. I am old enough to remember, as a kid, my parents not letting me buy toys that were made in China.

 

We went to a farm show about 7 or 8 years ago in Louisville, KY. You couldn't get close to any equipment because there would be a team of 12-15 surrounding it, all taking pictures. After we figured out what was going on, we would muscle our way through if we wanted to look at something or was interested in it.

 

Here is a prime example of China/Asia undercutting other companies. I spent 20 years working for an Austrian based, world renowned, machine tool manufacturer. Our parent company made machines that milled 20 foot long diesel crankshafts and other machines 2 to 3 stories tall. We, in the US plant, manufactured, from scratch, cnc crankshaft milling, cnc forging and other cnc machines for car, truck and tractor producing companies. We did the fab work, machine work, heat treating, welding, painting and built the cnc computers, with our own logic controls, in house. We assembled everything in house. We did on-site installations. Our machines were considered the Cadillac of the industry. Our plant was in Virginia. Our machines were on nearly every vehicle manufacturers engine production lines. Ours were so good that the machines lasted 20+ years. The only thing required was the replacement cutting tools or software upgrades. We all had a great life working there. At one point we had at least 25 crank mills in test run status in our shop at the same time. That was wall to wall machines with Ford, GM, Caterpillar, etc reps in and out daily doing their quality test runs prior to delivery. Those mills spit out a rough milled crankshaft every minute ready for the final grinding operation. I worked in several capacities from Machinist to Quality Control to Supervising night shift. We had to stop doing contract work, such as building tire press/forming machines for Michelin, because we were so overloaded with our own products. Every machine (35+) in our machine shop was manned and running nearly 24/7. Overtime was abundant including double and triple pay overtime. In the late 1990's we started a production line of machines for GM's new plant in Mexico. We were always concerned that Japan would steal our designs and cut into the market. What finally happened was that other Asian manufacturers started underbidding us. They were selling complete machines cheaper than we could buy materials to make the machines. Long story short that plant is now a virtual ghost town. They went from 20+ new crank mills annually to less than 3. Now they have changed their primary production to ultrasonic machines for the aircraft industry. Your new American made vehicles have engine components made on Chinese, Japanese and Taiwanese machines. Now the plant I worked in has maybe 5 machines running occasional jobs in that machine shop. Free trade works for the other guys and not for workers in the USA.
