I have a 2005 Tacoma Prerunner V6. So I noticed the "spark knock" for a while now and have continued to drive on it. Ive tried many things to eliminate the sound but none have really helped. My Catalytic Converter went out so I Bought OBX long tube headers and a URD 02 simulator. That didnt make a difference. I have Cleaned air filter, cleaned Maf sensor, Cleaned PCV. Ive tried fuel cleaner, injector cleaner. And none of that really helps. The spark knock sounds like BBs in a can or rattling. As soon as i let off the throttle it stops. The sound comes on only when the Engine is underload or climbing up hill. but it happens most the time when accelerating now. My Brother has a 2008 Tacoma and I notice it very slightly when his Tacoma shifts but it is nowhere near as loud as mine. I dont know if theres a tune that I can get to stop this. I got a Tune from JustDSM but that didnt help and was wondering if he could retard timing. Higher Octane gas helps a little. Im starting to think its something mechanically wrong with my truck. So my question is: What else can I do to get rid of spark Knock? How can I go about diagnosing it? Code Reader Live data?

Here is a Video of the Pinging:

Have you gotten back with @JustDSM with your logs and gotten his thoughts, he should be able to tell with the logs if the timing needs to be tweaked.

I don't know if knocking is a potential problem for using Iridiums instead of copper in a V6.

Sounds like a valvetrain issue, not spark knock. How many miles are on the truck?

I have a OBD2 reader. Would i need to set certain parameters when datalogging or just keep the default parameters?

Oh I was thinking you had a MPVI2 since you were tuned, I believe you want to look at knock feedback and knock learned value but I don't think you be able to see those data parameters on a generic scan tool.
There was some discussion about knock feedback and normal values here.

If I buy a mpv12 tuner would I be able to monitor it and send logs? Or should I just get in touch with JustDSM. I got the truck tuned about 6 months ago in Phoenix Arizona. It was a group tuning session ran by someone who works with JustDSM. Anyway I can monitor the feedback knock. I had a Subaru WRX and would always monitor those values on the Cobb accessport

I've been using denso iridiums for years and it has never caused a problem with knock. Don't think that is the issue.

Yes you would but it's not the only thing that can view those parameter, you need a scanner that can view manufacturer specific data.
I would get in contact with JustDSM and get his thoughts, he knows a ton about the tuning in our trucks.

There are plenty of threads on TW debating the use of iridiums vs copper in the V6. What I don't recall is if knocking is one of the potential problems.

Truck is still pinging. Wonder if I should do the cam gear mod or try to get in touch with JustDSM again for tuning
