Yes....I'm in the industry. And no I am not talking out my ass. However, this has become a debate of semantics.

Arguing with someone on the internet is like wrestling with a pig in the mud. At some point one must realize the pig is enjoying it.

    I'm out.

Why is there this stigma that only pigs enjoy mud wrestling? I tell you anyone and anything can enjoy mud wrestling even you;)

Do you have any reference for this? It's hard for me to understand how a filter 2 inches higher has less media surface area. Also there is a point where cramming too much media would restrict flow. You need some distance between pleats so the oil can flow between them. I've used the oversized 209 for 170K+ miles. I look down the fill spout and see the timing chain with a flashlight. There is zero sludge. I also change my oil at 5K miles.

Oh, just be like Kramer from Seinfeld, and use Coconut Oil and be done with it.

I am kidding, I have no dog in this fight.

The only way I’d let someone else work on my car or truck is I’d have a conversation to size them up. Your car or truck is the second most expensive thing you’ll buy and if you trust that to just anyone that’s your business. The second Gen Tacoma is one of the easiest pieces of equipment to service I’ve ever seen. Try doing a late model Prius or Lexus at home.

40.00 dollars buys me 2 oil changes using synthetic oil and 2 factory YZZD3 filters.
Earlier thread here about a fella took his truck to dealer for oil change. They let him go with oil leaking and he didn’t notice until he heard knocking and got a light. It was worth it to him and he didn’t have to soil his hands with used motor oil. It’s better to be self sufficient than place yourself at the tender mercies of an incompetent boob masquerading as a mechanic.

This posting is just a sly way of sneaking in another "what is the best oil" thread

A major brand meeting SAE specs that is not mislabeled but purchased through reputable sources.

I wouldn’t take my truck someone or place I didn’t trust.

Also, I’m of the opinion that a vehicle isn’t alway (and usually isn’t) the 2nd largest purchase you’ll make.

I understand what you’re saying, and I agree.
It’s our individual right to choose our priorities.
I’d rather use what little time I have in life, “sizing-up” my health care provider, than my mechanic.

    Again, please take no offense.
I just have a lot more to worry about currently.
