Good to know, I thought it was stock. I'll try to get the wiring back to stock.

Yeah I would have prefered a stock truck, but had no luck finding one. I also didn't see how heavily modified this one was until I started removing trim panels. Honestly all I want in a radio is the backup camera and android audio. I don't care about CD's, I just listen to music and podcasts from my phone anyway. I just wish I could find a modern stereo with a volume knob that isn't over $1000. Oh well i'll have to go to best buy or somewhere else and try them in person.

Where'd you mount your backup camera on that? Looks like it's on top of the tailgate.

Welcome to TW. Good looking truck by the way. I would definitely try and remove all of the extra stuff that the previous owner stuck in there. Take your time with that part and trace out the wires to make sure you get them all. As far as after market head units go there are a ton of good options out there with all the features you could ever want. The good news is that you still have the factory plugs in the dash. A lot of dummies cut those off when installing their "Systems." Swing by your local car audio store and pick up a set of wiring pig tails that plug into that factory radio wiring harness. That will run you about $20. Whatever new head unit you decide to get will have plain wires on the back that you tie in to the that pigtail. Pretty much just match the colors up. If, while wiring up your new head unit, you are not sure which pairs of wires go to which speaker there is a simple trick to figure it out. Speaker wires will be in pairs like orange / orange with black stripe. Touch a pair of those to the terminals of a nine volt battery and listen. Whatever speaker they go to will make a little thump or pop sound. This will not hurt the speaker in any way. Just an old trick from back when I was into all the stereo stuff. Any way, good luck with the truck!!

Yeah I should preface my comment with: I'm just guessing.

It could be the stereo Broheim had Best Buy install that is the parasitic draw.

That's why I want to do the parasitic draw test to find out what circuit(s) is the culprit. I have no experience doing this whatsoever so I'm aiming for Youtube Certification.

I've got a 2000 Taco that I just did a complete Headunit/Speakers/Amp/Sub/Backup camera install on. When I was researching the headunit install on the YouTubes I came across a video for a Toyota 4Runner and they pulled an amp out of the dash that looked just like that. Also the 4runner with the premium sound option came with the 6 disc CD changer so it looks like they took the headunit from the 4runner as well.

Get a Metra 70-1761 wiring harness adapter which will plug into the factory wiring harness and then give you wire leads to connect to the aftermarket radio. I'd recommend crimp connectors, don't use the twist on wire connectors. All of the wiring is color coded and the wires are labeled.

So i've been pulling apart the truck all weekend. Found more of bubba's wiring. Looks like at one point there was an amp under the passenger seat, and then that got removed but the wiring was just stuffed under the carpet. I might have to pull the entire dashboard but i'm going to get the stereo wiring back to stock.

    P_20220528_200718.jpg

I've got a new stereo (a Pioneer DMH-1700NEX), backup camera, and USB port that installs where the cigarette lighter was. Should be pretty slick when it's done.

Also on the laundry list is replacing the passenger door lock cylinder, replacing the hood latch cable, and trying to figure out why clutch pedal sometimes won't fully engage the clutch. I'm thinking either flush and re-fill the clutch system, or replace the master cylinder for that last one.

That makes sense. Good catch. I've got the a harness adapter but it looks like the wiring behind the factory plugs may have been messed with. I guess i'll find out.

@Winkle99 Where did you run the wiring for your camera? I'm guessing driver side, going with the rest of the wiring out the back of the cab and down the frame?

Correct. For the rear camera, I ran the wire under the steering wheel, down behind the kick panel, under the carpet along the door sill, out of the back of the cab through this grommet,
    61B05816-E2FC-48EE-B9A2-584DCB3CBB1D.jpg
    and down the frame.

I might have to make a new thread for this, but does anyone know where i'm supposed to connect my stereo to the parking brake. I bought a Pioneer DMH-1700NEX and it's saying to connect it to the powered side of the circuit. Is there a specific (or good) wire to tap this into?
