I bought this just over 100k a few years ago. I never liked the shocks much. My guess is they are original. They are bouncy and can be a hazard on the highway, like when going over a bridge seam. I don't do much "offroad", I just want a stable, secure ride on pavement. Any suggestions on what to to replace them with?

Get some 3rd gen TRD off road take offs. The sport shocks ride like crap.

How would you compare the eibach's to Bilstein 5100's?

Only differences are the bypass valving on the Eibach for low speed to make it softer. My only experience with 5100s is with a lift @ 1.25”, I always thought they rode rough. With the stock height setting the ride could very well be different.

I’m on Eibach stage 1 lift coilovers, and I love the ride. Night and day to the 5100s. Softer but more controlled.

Here is what I am referencing.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/review-3rd-gen-suspension-on-2nd-gen.542843/

Basically you are just taking the take 3rd gen tacomas coil overs and shocks that others have taken off and putting it on your 2nd gen Tacoma. You can find post on people selling them with only a few hundred miles on them at a decent price.

Here is a link to a guy on the forum that is able to source many TRD OR shocks fully assembled.

Ok. So looking at this a bit more, I'm thinking Just getting Bilstein 4100's. I don't want lift, just a better ride around town and the highway. Im going tob have thre guys at the local shop do this. Am I likely to need new springs as well?

My springs were shot at 140k miles, but they were preloaded for at least 100k. Springs are wear items and do wear out, but age is a huge factor. Best way to tell is measure from hub to bottom of fender on flat ground. Should measure 20.5” or thereabouts.

So I am having a hard time sourcing Bilstein 4600's. My local Autozone can only order the 5100's, Bil$teinlift$ website isn't working to process the order and $hock$s$urplu$ is out of stock.

Same thing I had to do! I got this kit because it uses the eibach 620 lbs coils. Its not too pricey if you buy on black Friday. I'm local to Toytec so no delivery for me, just local pickup. I highly recommend this kit. It has changed slightly since I got it, but its more or less the same. Get the 2nd clip setting & let them assemble it. I did not get the alum top hats for the coilovers & was satisfied with the amount of lift

    Better than this junk

At that mileage, I would replace the rear leaf pack too. It will also effect ride quality. Going with 3rd gen factory takeoffs would be the route I would choose.
