I can’t see how to- pics attached, but there’s this weather strip like lip that slants down on mine and I can’t clear it when I try and shut the tailgate. I suppose one could get a razor blade and trim that but …. ‍♂️. Any help?

That looks nothing like my MX4... 20220610_122028.jpg

The tonneau on mine is on the inside. It doesn't overhang the tailgate.

Edit: is yours a first gen truck... maybe that gen has a different cover. The third gen is like mine pictured. The tailgate can be opened and closed without opening the tonneau.

You might need to scoot the entire tonneau forward a pinch so that flap tucks inside the tailgate, but I'm not positive. :notsure:

A buddy of mine bought a 2017 Silverado with a Bak Vortrak on it. His is great. It rolls smooth, latches tight, and does a pretty good job of keeping water out of the bed. I liked it so much that I bought one for the 2019 Tundra I had. My experience wasn't as great. I owned the truck for two years, had the cover on it for about a year and a half, and never got the thing adjusted to where it worked right. If I adjusted the tracks so that it would roll smooth, it put the catch for the latch too far away from the locking mechanism and it would come open when I'd hit a speed bump or a pot hole. But, if I adjusted the tracks to where it latched tight, then it didn't want to roll smoothly, even after I liberally applied white lithium grease to the tracks. The drain hoses on the box that the cover rolls up into leaked whenever it rained and let water into the bed and it didn't seal up against the tailgate very well either. The pull strap on the cover you pull on to close the cover ripped off after about 3 months.

Did I just get a bad one? Maybe. Was it installer/operator error? Probably lol. But my experience made me decide that I don't want another one like that and will probably stick with tri-fold ones from here on out. I've got one of Toyota's OEM hard tonneau covers coming with the 2022 I've got on the way.

I can't tell if you are serious or not. There is room between the bed and the back of the cab (where the window is). There is the edge of the bed itself, and then a gap between the bed and the back of the cab. The rolled up cover sits there. It is 100% out of the way.

I was joking but also curious. It makes sense that the cover could squish up against the glass... I had not considered that. That is definitely a nice aspect of the roll up tonneau.

Mines a 2nd Gen (2008). Yeah I did my best to install but damn if those instructions didn’t leave much to be desired! And the YouTube video seemed dated and I didn’t have the same parts the guy was using. Also didn’t come with small washers and only had large ones !

Can you modify the plastic bed side rails (make cutouts) to accept an OEM tonneau cover? Rather not buy the OEM as it looks like they are 119 each side and only need the cover until I get a cap. Thanks!

Is that a cb antenna bracket by the right brake light? If so, where did you get it?

Yeah I moved it up some today (you have to loosens those underneath star bolt thing to do so right ? And then I moved it up some. It still had a ledge that hinders me from freely being able to close the tailgate without it hitting that little flap. Does that make sense ? I think I moved it the maximum amount as far forward as it can go

Caliraised bed accessory bracket. It does rub the tailgate paint a bit.

I'm not sure. I'd reach out to Bakflip as it should be under warranty. Maybe there's something they can suggest or possibly send you a replacement.

For those still following this thread, I ended up ordering a Lomax Stance. Really impressed with the quality and functionality of the cover. Install was a breeze, took about 45 minutes. On the expensive side but I feel like it was worth it.

Two minor criticisms... 1) I am not the biggest fan of the cover top finish. They had two options and I chose the Black Urethane finish. It is pretty coarse though... looks like skateboard grip tape but rougher. I would have liked to have a smooth surface option. 2) To secure the cover in the fully open position and drive around like that, you need to adhere these clips to the roof of the truck that hold the cover in the vertical position. I don't have a roof rack, but if I did, not sure this cover would have worked for me, or it at least be less convenient to access those clips.

I washed my truck after I installed the cover and the bed was bone dry afterwards so waterproofing seems good.

Overall, I am happy with my purchase. I also found this thread to be helpful to narrow down the choices to a couple of good options. Hope others found it useful as well!

I don't like sticking the anchor points to the roof, that's what killed that cover for me.
