Ignoring the major spelling and grammar issues, and in addition to what everyone else has said, I'll add that "my friend, this one time at school had this one thing happen to him" is often a very poor argument for what is currently happening to you.

These engines are part time direct injected. Direct injection systems make tapping noises. These aren't engines from the 1980's. Technology changes. If you've done research on this subject, you'd see there have been several threads on this issue on this forum and very rarely is there an actual issue. That being on top of the fact that 200k+ of these trucks are sold every year.

As an experienced technician I have to back this guy on the issue if he had what I’m hearing.

Yes DPI is loud and cleaning cycle is noisy but The sound is far from that. It’s consistent with the sound of a rod knock early on but it’s intermittent which negates rod bearing, definitely coming from the valve train. Like OP stated sounds like a gm hydraulic lifter struggling but these are over head cam. I’ve been looking for a service manual or exploded diagram for the valve train with no luck.

Curious to see if there are any loss motion assemblies or something holding the rockers stable in between cam lobe cycles.

This is correct. The injectors are just noisy as hell. Truck is working as intended.

yes they are but like stated this is not a injector noise. So far I’ve found posts about broken valve guides, broken ring lands and catastrophic rod failures resulting in a hole in the block. Been a mechanic for 20+ years just never really messed with Toyotas. Doing my homework before digging in the motor..

Lmao what? I work at a dealer, drive 10+ of these trucks a day. This is completely normal behaviour.

For the injector noise I’ll Agree it’s normal but a rod knock sound coming from the valve train is not. You can clearly hear the knock WHILE also hearing the injectors doing their job just fine.. never been concerned about the injector sound and have had to explain to most people that’s normal. As of 2 days ago now the knock not tick is not injector or cleaning cycle. It is something starting to fail or become worn in the valve train 100%. If your driving 10+ vehicles a day you are obviously not a technician bud. I understand explaining DPI to every customer that hears these motors worried about the normal tick but this ain’t it.

Pull the valve covers get out the feeler gauges and check the clearance other wise it's just guessing. By design they are a bit noisy that is normal ever single shimmed valve engine is that way. If you can localize it to one side pull that one first. Or take it to some one that knows what they are doing.

I’ve put over 50,000 miles on this truck and once again the normal injector ticking sound has never been a concern the new knock that just showed up is not normal. I build race cars for a living, if you think the knock is normal you got played by your dealer plain and simple.

That's more of a tick than a knock to me but it's hard to tell on a video. I'd bet on the vacuum pump before something internal. Especially since it's intermittent.

ahh the typical ass hat I was just talking about. Already eliminated anything to do with injection system and vacuum pump. Apparently you missed the comment about 0w-30 reducing the noise… if you knew anything about motors you’d know thicker oil wouldn’t help the injector or pump noise.. it’s fuck boys like you that have ruined forums. If you don’t want to read the shit and you don’t actually have anything helpful to post kick rocks.
