IMO you are better off welding on @eimkeith 's gussets while they are off that actually adds protection and strengthens the LCA as a whole. The bonus is a smooth surface for rocks to slide on.

I know not the answer you asked for, but IMO the better route to go or nothing at all. I never ran protection before and my LCA's show it. Aside from risk of separation at the rivets, the fuckers are stout.

The fact that the hole that needs to be drilled is surrounded by these rivets makes the hole less worrisome. I forgot about those rivets being there.

Ah hell... What's an extra 10, or so, pounds. More cushion for the pushin.

Those, actually, look like a LOT better design, that would actually offer a lot more strength.

But... I already have these BAMF skids sitting in the garage. Not sure if Keith can get me a set of those before the weekend. And, well... let's just face it... us cheap assed 1st genners don't pony up cash for anything. So, I think I'm gunna go with the free route for now.

Did you have cracking around the rivets when you installed those? I certainly did when I finally gave up on the stock LCAs, but those gussets are definitely the way to go if keeping them.

Ok, so on a serious note. I checked out @eimkeith page... because that kit looks really good.

Unfortunately he went out of stock yesterday and it doesn't look like he'll be restocked till 7/11. That kit is going on my future plans list. I didn't even know he started making that kit.

No cracking yet, but I just realized that those LCA's were new with the frame in 2016. Not sure how the OEM 2001's looked when they got removed. The new frame really gave me a good jump of point to strengthen everything from.

I got a set. I don't understand the "you are losing clearance". Its minimal. Hammer down and get over them pebbles. Get them on and run them Matt. Won't hurt anything .

Same with the diff skid. 1/4 inch has yet to get me stuck or hung up :boink:

I got the back half or the diff protected with a LROR diff skid. That way if I back up in to something I wont dent the sheet metal cover in to the ring gear. I'd like to get the pinion/ U-joint protected. My intention was to use the spare axle, I had, to fabricate a pinion/U-joint protector while not having to do it laying under the truck.

@Pickeledpigsfeet needed the axle, and I hadn't gotten around to it though.

Fuel pump replacement. Hoping this fixes my p0300 code. Pump hasn’t been changed to my knowledge so I got high hopes.

What’s the go to body mounts? Energy suspension? I was reading a few threads that they are shorter than stock, is that true? Considering the day star 1” lift bushing as well since I read that those tend to only be 3/4” of actual lift.

are oem bushing kits a thing?

Where did you read that the energy suspension ones are shorter than stock? I haven't heard that before.

I've had energy suspension body mounts installed for the last several years. Haven't had any issues, and I don't think they're lower than stock, but I didn't measure.

yeah the double cab mounts are different.

Which they now actually sell. The extended cab ones will not work on a double cab.

Okay next issue lol I’ve been chasing a clunk, and at 9 and 3 rotating the tire I found it. Inner and outer tie rods are brand new and you can see have no play. Clunk is coming from the rack, with some play. Is this a failing steering rack? I will say the steering has been feeling “heavier”.

Have you tried just replacing the steering rack guide? If its not leaking it's probably that. Or I guess could be worn teeth which would need a replacement then.
