Lift/Wheel/Gen. questions before doing facelift

Ok well I have an 05 Dbl Cab TRD Off Road Speedway Blue and it's time to do something about the looks. I need INPUT

I would like to start by saying that I HAVE searched through the forums and have found some info but not enough to satisfy before spending a bunch of cash. I just want to make sure I am getting the right stuff or if I should just get a different type of lift.

I want to get some info on the Toytec coil overs. Is this is a direct bolt on. Will this require any longer brake lines? Has anyone had any trouble aligning the front or will I have to buy some additional items to correct it. I have read that some trucks may require different UCA to correct the problem but I wasn't able to find anymore info on that.

I did some math on Toytecs page and found that if I buy the whole things it's $800. The coil kit (no shocks) is only $429 and the 5100's are on eBay for about $270. That's only $700. Am I missing something here. That's a difference of $100 so I want to see if I will be having to buy something else. Or is the difference in assembly because its a pain which in that case is worth the money and not the hassle. Just trying to save as much as I can cuz ya know how things are these days but I can't put off doing this to my truck any longer...I NEED.

I am gonna call Toyota tomorrow to see if I can get the AAL TSB done but I doubt it. Never hurts to try. BUT, if that doesn't work, what AAL should I go with or does it even matter.

I really haven't found too many rims that I think would look good on the truck (thought about black for a bit but not me) and I have decided on the Mickey Thompson Classic II polished wheel in a 17". My question here is on the offset. I would like some info/pics and maybe the offset on your trucks wheels. The stock rims and tires are almost hidden in the fenders and want to bring them out a little.

I really appreciate any and all info as I am itching to spend some money on the truck. You guys have some nice trucks on here and I am ready to get mine out of stock status immediately.

 

The Toytec coilovers are bolt on, if you by the kit and shocks separately you need things like the factory top plate, etc. to install plus you need a shop to assemble them with a spring compressor. i think buying them directly from them as a package is easiest. If you want to get over 2.5 or so inches of lift out of them, it seems that a UCA is necessary to get the factory spec on alignment.
If you dont get the TSB done, check out this 3 leaf AAL from , or i'd probably just get a toytec AAL.
As for wheel offset and back space, im pretty sure this is what you want.

 

my wheels have the same specs as the one i posted the link to. heres how it looks:

im running a narrow 255 tire' i think a wider 285 or even a 305 will stick out a little farther and look tougher like you want.

 

xtreme450, great posts. I am running the BFG M/T in 285, by looking at your pic's mine only stick out a little more than yours. Just enough to give a rooster tail on the sides when driving straight.
What pressure you running?

 

You'll want a differential drop kit if you're going to 3". It's only about $30 from Toytec. As xtreme450 said, the complete coilover Bilstein kit is bolt in (no spring compression needed). It comes with a new top plate. However, it doesn't come with the rear shocks. Downsouth Motorsports can also give you a good deal on the rear shocks too if you go that route.

+1. I went the "all separate parts" route thinking I'd save a bunch of money. But at the end of the day, after time spent finding someone to compress them and hassle, then the price of having them compressed/assembled ($40), I was about $100 more than the total coilover from them, but I had the rear shocks. So I didn't really save any money.

If I had it to do over, I would just buy them complete coilover. But that's just me...

 

I run about 35 PSI all the way around on mine.

 

I went with the procomp 3" sus. has a aal in the rear and the bolt on spacers up front no need for spring compressors. Came with the differential drop kit too. costed me like $190 on ebay brand new. Then you can go with what ever kinda shocks you want but really if you don't offroad alot you don't need new rear shocks right away.

 

Xtreme. Thanks for the info. That is the look I want. Your truck looks GREAT. So I shouldn't need any longer brake lines. Do you get any tire rub with that setup? So if I do need the UCAs, what do you recommend? I see that you are from Klamath Falls. I have been down that river so many times in years past. I used to live in Roseburg a little north of you.Longhorn, I figured that would be the case as it seemed like one of those "too good to be true" routes. If you guys think of anything else please don't hesitate to let me know.....As soon as I get this figured out and ordered I am gonna do the stereo...DNX8120 is in the plans with that JL Stealthbox I believe

 

I also found some LED lights that are used on semi trucks that I have flush mounted in the bed. I will get some pics up soon. Took me forever to find the light that I wanted so I could utilize all of the space in my short bed. It's the only regret, well not even a regret, that I didn't buy the long bed in my color but I was impatient. I LOVE MY TRUCK

No, you don't need longer brake lines for the 3" lift up front.

Tires/wheels - As long as the backspacing is less than about 4.25", you won't be rubbing your UCAs. I'm running on stock rims (I hear they have a 5.5" backspace) and I put on some 1.25" spidertrax spacers. It fixed my UCA rubbing. Rubbing the fenders - you didn't mention what size tires you were considering, but if you put 285s on with a 3" lift, you will have to do some minor trimming (still have to do mine). Anything smaller, I don't think you'll have any rub.

Replacing your UCAs - go Total Chaos! They're a little more expensive, but worth every penny! Check out this post concerning NOT replacing your UCAs with your lift:

The 8120 is pretty sweet - I just installed mine last week! So many damn features that I haven't even scratched the surface! Now I'm just waiting on my box from Marv to install all my speakers and amps...

 

Minor trimming for stock wheels with spidertrax and 285/70/17 tires


From the front you cant tell its been trimmed.

 

my wheels are a 17x9 with 5" BS and 0 offset, i have no rubbing issues. I've heard some good about the because they are zero maintainence but there are some more expensive Uniball UCAs like the ones that Longhorn mentioned which are probably better. They offer the ability to hold up at more extreme angles, Just a bit more expensive and require a bit of grease periodically.
