This for sure is an anomaly. But, I’ll take it. We were exploring the backroads in Wisconsin over the July 4th holiday. I’m definitely not complaining.

I just recently got 5.29 gears and am wondering what throttle settings folks are running or recommend. I am currently running KDmax Pro Sport, and want something less sensitive. Thanks!

I went mild/medium after getting 4.88's. Performance is still fantastic and throttle is not too touchy.

I'll let our user community answer your question for you, but in general you can expect a more "mature" throttle with OTT, even with our more aggressive offerings. Feel free to visit with one of our tuners and I'm sure they'll be happy to let you test drive to see if it's more your style.

Thanks! I am going to see my tuner in a couple weeks, and I think I am leaning towards mild/medium based on feedback.

First off I hate hyperbole and I know how much bias is present in these subjective comments but I feel the need to contribute my opinion because I am very impressed with the update from OTT 7.0 to 8.0 that I recently had done.

To start, I was not expecting to notice any difference, however right off the line from the parking lot I could feel a big change. This alone impressed me because I thought it was just going to be a minor update, tweaks here and there. While I had thought that the gear transitions were smooth before, now they are even better, even less noticeable. I'm pretty surprised. The only prior criticism of 7.0, if I had one at all, was the ever-so-slight-barely-noticeable extra amount of pedal I had to give the truck to go from standing to a slight roll. Now with 8.0 it glides into motion from a complete stop, transitions through the gears without effort, and continues to shift super cleanly on the highway. Holy cow, it's nice. My base tune is the Medium. I haven't pushed the ECT button to test out the Spicy version yet but I'm looking forward to it.

For reference I'm on 33.5" mud tires, 5.29 gears, modestly heavy with bumper, armor, shell, drawers, etc.

Appreciate your thoughtful and honest review.

We made some deliberate changes to the throttle actuation off idle to tame things down from our previous versions. Appreciate you sharing your criticism along with the praise. Let us know if you'd like to address it. We're happy to make targeted changes to better meet your clients needs if it's something you'd like addressed.

Again, appreciate you taking the time to share your thoughts.

Just to clarify, my very minor criticism (and I mean, minor) was with 7.0, it's fixed with 8.0 as far as I can tell. I edited my post for clarity. Thanks!

    KDMax to OTT switch review.
I was originally tuned by BigDawgs tuning in April of this year @NickJacq23 (above). That tune was an impressive upgrade from the factory abomination of a tune these trucks come with. Seriously the 3.5l in our Sienna felt like it had more torque than the factory tune. However, I still had some throttle lag/dead peddle issues occasionally and the truck was a little jumpy off the line with normal throttle. I was hopi g for a reflash or upgrade. However BigDawg tuning was no longer supported for performing KDMax tunes. We discussed the differences between the tunes and I decided to give the newest OTT tune a trial run.

With the flash completed I immediately noticed smoother acceleration without the initial lurching forward. I’ve only been tune a few days so far but the truck is getting better mileage by 1.6 mpg, primarily on city driving. I can’t tell a difference in power or torque, but I don’t really drive around mashing the peddle. One thing that I noticed is a shudder I would get on deceleration when coming to a stop is gone. I got tuned right before I did a lift and had been attributing the shudder to the lift. It was very mild, but consistent. That shudder is completely gone now. The truck drives perfect and it’s unlikely I’ll ever need another tune (unless something comes out that changes the laws of physics and I can get 50 mpg and 500 HP :D )

Great tune really happy with it so far with about 200 miles on it both highway and city. I’ll try to follow up again when I get some more miles on it and a few tanks through it. Running 87 octane now.

I promised my fiancé I wouldn't modify this truck... I lied.
Kruiser 4.0 to OTT tune review:
2018 Tacoma DCLB, auto, 2.5” lift, 33’s, stock gears, and about 500 pounds added weight in gear (tent, etc.)

Met up with @PNWTacoma this weekend at the PNW Overland Expo to have the truck updated to the OTT tune with medium throttle. I was pretty happy with the Kruiser 4.0 (tuned last April), but wanted to get the latest and greatest. After 100 or so miles the tune had settled in. Now that I’ve had the chance to commute I’ve got a good feel for it. The truck shifts a little more compared to the old tune, but in a good way. The low and mid range torque is great and the shifts feel confident because the truck now has the torque to back it up. I’m able to climb hills in a higher gear now without the aggressive downshifting. The shifts are buttery smooth. I had to pass someone the other day and it cycled through the gears perfectly. No lunging or hesitation. I also picked up about a mile per gallon because the truck is able to be in a higher gear now at 65. Also, zero surging in the morning when the truck is cold which was a small but noticeable issue with the previous tune. Overall, I’m incredibly impressed and highly recommend the OTT tune. If you’re in the PNW, definitely hit up @PNWTacoma. He’s an awesome guy and does a great job at explaining everything and following up with any questions you may have.

Is there nobody covering the SF bay area for OTT? I have kd maxx pro, sport mode. Throttle is too touchy for me and I like the reviews of OTT 8.0 both for the additional torque and overall smoothness that I see folks raving about.

Yes, I believe @cemented gets to the Bay Area on occasion. We also have another tuner that gets there occasionally. Check in with the Reno based tuner on the Map below.
