so you would recommend spending $5-600 for aftermarket UCAs on a budget build, rather than $140 for a cmc?

Absolutely. The cab mount serves a safety purpose. There isn’t any data that shows a chop diminishes the safety factor of the cab mount but there isn’t any data showing a chopped mount is just as safe.

well, I guess budget lift is thrown out at this point. IMO, a cmc is the best bang for buck, simple mod someone can do when going bigger, thus why virtually everyone running 33s or bigger has done it. Ymmv

I guess budget is relative. $300 more and not chop away at a safety feature is still budget in my book.

Negative, Goose. 275/70/17 will fit with no rub, full stuff and full steering with the right spec wheels and a LCA fwd alignment. Most UCAs work against tire clearance as far as aft wheel well/cab mount interference, but can be needed to correct caster after lifting more than 1.5-2". There is a grey area as far as how much because not every truck can keep the same amount of fwd bias of the LCA, so YMMV there. I have 275/70/17 on TRD Pro wheels and the tires don't touch anywhere all the way up to the bumps.

Try some less pokey wheels. They will give you more room at the wheel well/cab mount and look less dumb.

your wheels are ground zero for fitment. 17x7, 0 offset. Anything bigger/more offset gets trickier. Additionally, that small of a tire on a lifted Taco doesn’t look good at all IMO. Kind of like 33s on a Gladiator.

That's my point. Selecting the correct spec wheel for the tire size is one of the keys to fitting 275/285 tires. Wheels that are sized to provide clearance for the suspension AND bodywork are a logical, intelligent solution to using the largest/widest tire without interference. Using a -38 offset wheel and putting a 33"+ tire on a tacoma makes no sense unless there is modification to the suspension geometry, bodywork, etc. The OEM TRD Pro wheels, IMO, are the ideal size and offset/backspacing spec for any tires sized to fit on them. Anything with more offset sticks out past the fender, creates more interference problems with the wheel well/cab mount/etc, is illegal in many states if the tire protrudes outside of the fender flare/bodywork, and they look stupid.

17x7 is not ideal, sorry but that’s just truth. 0 offset with that width also doesn’t fill out the fenders at all and looks crappy. Just look at how many Pro owners who drop $50k for their trucks, only to swap those bland looking Pro wheels for something more aggressive. Why is it that SCS, Summit, RRW don’t even offer a 0 offset 17x7 wheel? Because no one is buying.

Lol, ok. I guess the large negative offset pushing 265/70 or larger tires into the wheel well liner is a good thing. Every aftermarket wheel worth a shit is offered in a low offset, like -6 to -12 and a high offset for highly modified vehicles and dorks who want to look cool at the mall or jam their tires into their body if they actually use the suspension.

-6 and -10 is not zero offset. I’ve seen several trucks with large negative offsets out on serious trails (including myself) and do just fine. Seems like maybe you need wheel offset anonymous? Do I rub? Occasionally on full lock. You think the jeep rock crawlers rub on 37 or 40s full flex? Absolutely..,your argument is invalid and based on conjecture.

275’s on 4Runners stuffed and it’s stock. No cutting was required as set up, no special alignment. It will rub the plastic inner fender lining but it’s been set up like this for a year and a half and the plastics still just fine.

Awesome! What do you think of the Wildpeaks? And what load rating did you go with? Those are my tire of choice.

They are great, no issues so far. I’ve been in mud and sand which is mostly what we have here, we don’t have anywhere to rock crawl anything like it is in the mainland US. Load range C, I’ve never needed anything else for my Toyotas.

Falken WP should come standard on Tacoma’s with 4WD like Jeeps. They’re snow rated, balance well and IMO, blow K02s out of the water. Ymmv

What does that mean? Of course it's not zero offset, it's -6 & -10, that's what the numbers mean. Why do you keep bringing up zero offset? If you usually rub on full lock, then you always rub on full lock at that suspension position. It's not like your truck decides if it's going to rub sometimes and not others. If you have to compare your "occasional" rub to some hypothetical jeep with 7" taller tires to convince yourself that it's better to have wheels that poke out while your 33s rub, good luck. I'll keep stuffing my 32s on OEM wheels that fit under the truck and never have a problem.
