So does anyone else have this issue or has seen this with their truck.

when it’s warm outside, I can keep my dials like they are in the picture below and my truck blows cool air.(not as cold as AC but enough to keep me cool without the AC being on).

it’s always on fresh air just like in the picture and I noticed that if I changed the vent position to say floor or face that warm are blows in on warm days.

the truck doesn’t act sluggish like it does when the AC is turned on.

Unless you have done the relevant mod the A/C will always be on when the mode selector is on defrost or defrost/floor even though the light may not turn on.

Ok but why the difference in feel of sluggishness when AC vs it being on defrost.
Just asking not trying to say you’re wrong or anything

Not sure, I've never noticed that mine is sluggish with the A/C on although I can feel the compressor kick in at times while driving when it's on.
I did the mod on my truck cause I didn't want it forced on with defrost.

Try looking at the ac compressor with the dials in their pictured position engine running. I’ll bet the compressor is spinning. Then turn the dial counterclockwise so defrost isn’t selected and look again, it should not be spinning. The sluggish you mention is the slight amount of power it takes to spin the compressor. With the engine running with the dials pictured, the ac button light should be lit.

Putting it on defrost is exactly the same as pushing the A/C button. There is no difference.

    I mean there kinda is.

ac is colder then defrost and I don’t have the sluggishness when defrost is on. But I get what y’all are saying

    I haven’t read the whole thread but it’s 2009+. And I’m 2007 which I wouldn’t think would make a big deal but…

Read into it, the first post has the method for 05-08 trucks and the link in the first post is for 09-15 trucks.
Early trucks it's as simple as depinning 1 wire, later trucks you have to tie 2 wires together.

It gives the illusion that AC is colder because the air is being blown from the front dash vents into your face. Defrost mode blows the air from the top vents on to the windshield.

My mistake. The ac button didn’t light up on mine with the dial on defrost, I was thinking about another vehicle. With the engine running, dial at 12 o’clock pointing at feet, turn dial clockwise, at some point you’ll hear the idle go up a bit, now the compressor clutch is engaged and spinning.
