My 3k choice is for older vehicles; 22R, dauntless 225, 4.0 inline 6 variety. We all have choices.

I've got over 500k miles on my 84 runner, I've changed the oil every 20k miles for the last 20 years. The 22R is somewhat indestructible. The v6 in my 2022 using low tension rings is not.

This is why I'll be changing oil at 5k~7k miles.

Not sure why anyone would think the car care nut would make this stuff up. What possible gain would he make?

It's possible to have all the facts and still reach the wrong conclusion. 10k oil changes aren't why that engine died. There are Toyota's out there still running with 1.5 million miles and 10K oil changes. I've seen cars go over 100,000 miles and never have the oil changed.

When I watched the video and he got to the cylinders, my first impression was a casting issue on the block and those cylinders. I don’t know much about all of this, but it sure seemed like a defect unrelated to 10k oil changes.

5k for those that beat the living crap out of out trucks. Seriously though...I guess those that do mostly city driving can qualify also.

Looked more to me like this well maintained car that was done by this toyota dealer using dino oil for the 10k changes. Some engines like the 3.0 was a noted sludge engine if a synthetic wasn't used. I've seen enough engine internals to know a good synthetic won't do this with 10k oil changes in that amount of mileage on the odo.

I think heavy towing would be it. As far as your wife, she must of learned how to drive from the same place my wife had.:frusty:

Idk much about the atf these tacoma's are using, but my old 4,7 tundra used dexron 3. The fluid had to be drained, and replaced every 15k miles even though the color hadn't looked bad. You could feel how much smoother the truck would shift after its 4 qt atf replacement.

^^ This. The only correct answer to the endlessly asked "how often should I change my oil" question is "as often as I want to". I go by what the factory maintenance schedule tells me to do, but that's just me.

Wait... You actually follow the manufacturers suggestion on how to maintain your truck? That's crazy talk man! I bet your one of the weirdo's that doesn't even know how to swap out your grille!!!
