Definitely not true, ford ecoboost motors have a lot of issues with oil consumption, and gms single port direct injection system is poorly designed in terms of longevity as the intake valve has no prevision to clean of carbon. If it last past 100k your going to have serious carbon buildup problems. Gladiator pentastar motors have valve tick issues and a pending lawsuit. Not up to snuf on nissian, haven't read anything on them recently, maybe this is a good thing for them? The I4 forced induction system seem to have problems a crossed most manufactures. Think the only people with a good one are subarus and even they have issues, I wonder it Toyota can buck that trend.

However, people keep buying those vehicles in spite of the problems.
Tacomas have their share of problems too, as evidenced by the posts in this forum.
So, you have an answer on why Toyota is a sales leader?

I really don't understand the whole "let's make the same vehicle branded under two different names" thing. It's never really made any sense to me.

The "other guys" definitely still have more issues then current gen Toyotas, even if Toyota's quality has gone down some what(though I have seen no statistical data to support this). The reason could be that, people want the better reliability, its why I bought one. If its still the leader than that could just mean they are still the best combination of reliability, size, capability, and price to suit most peoples needs(baring the current insane price Tacomas are going for, for some ridiculous reason)

Sales leader in general or with the Tacoma? They're the world's biggest automaker in large part to the perceived reliability you've discounted out of hand, in my opinion.

As far as Tacomas I figure fleet sales have something to do with the sales numbers that dwarf other US midsize trucks. I see countless fleet Tacomas and virtually no other midsize fleet trucks.

I believe the Tacoma is the best seller because it is the truck with the best combination of all the other trucks. Not the best in anything but is decent at everything.

Here's a good question: how did Toyota grow Tacoma sales by nearly 100,000 per year from 2014-2018? 4050FE01-3879-4204-BE3E-4C254DAF24A7.jpg

A big piece of that was social media and lifestyle / influencers. All of a sudden 20-30 something’s wanted a truck they could lift and go take pictures of on a dirt road for instagram. Been here since 2009 and the types of owners here has definitely changed. The launch of the 3rd gen and a decent good looking affordable truck to do that coincided nicely.

You say that many times but I'm sure you have zero proof, as do I.
However, I do know that, 20 years ago, I only started buying Toyotas and Hondas and my vehicle problems magically disappeared.
So, one data point for me.

They bought new rangers in 2012. By 2014 they needed a new truck.
