I can certainly monkey see, monkey do. I got one from HD for $3. It looks like the pipe insulation is placed more toward the lower of the gap between the cab and the box. My inquiring mind asks what is the insulation stopping, the wind coming in from the top of the gap opening or from the bottom of the truck? TIA.q

Road noise generated by the tires permeating into the cab through the 2x vents behind the seats. I used a colour matched pool noodle.

Nothing looks irregular. I feel like my truck was quieter when I first bought it. You could put dampening material everywhere but I’ll probably just do the pool noodle and call it a day.

I wonder if there’s any complications from it, I imagine not since it’s just a bit of foam

Many people who reported whistling in the past claimed that it came from their wing mirror. You could try reseating/adding the gasket where it attaches to the driver's door, see if that helps.

Any particular spot the pipe insulation should be placed between the cab and the bed? Where are the two vents located behind the seat. May be I should place the insulation material right where the vents are.

Just between the bed and cab along the bottom. I dont have vents on mine but this is what they look like. DO NOT cover them as they relieve the pressure when doors are shut. 20220817_213935.jpg

Just make sure you tip the ends down so water will run off.

Question for all of you that have done the Pool Noodle mod...

Do you see any buildup of leaves and other debris resting on the Pool Noodle after you've installed it?

I've only had mine in for a few months but I don't think much can get in there from the top and if it did you could easily spray it off with air or water.

Shared this video in another thread, but thought it may be useful here too.

2022 Tacoma access cab OR with jump seats removed

Thanks for this thread and all the info.

I made a video from my dashcam that may help others decide what to do.

I tried several options suggested here and slightly modified the final solution. I didn't eliminate the wind noise, but really reduced the road noise significantly.
clip 1 - Sorry about the music, I have no video without it
clip 2 - Tried the drain tube in the door seals, no noticeable difference
clip 3 - Tried the 1 home depot 3/4 pipe insulation under the cab vents-
    Noticed a difference https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-3-4-in-x-6-ft-Foam-Self-Seal-Pipe-Insulation-ORS07812/204760815
clip 4 - I liked the insulation results so I thought why not insulate the outside of the cab so I added 5 more with 1 above the cab vents
clip 5 - Installed the door insulation and with all 6 pipe insulators. big difference in road noise.

Here is the video. Turn up the volume and you decide if it helps.

If you dont mind, I'm having a hard time knowing what you mean in clip 4 + 5 versus just the cab/bed tube. Thanks for the link I'll be sure to get one tomorrow. Did you adhere it to itself beforehand so it doesnt gunk up on the truck? Sounds like 4+5 are quieter than 3 to me

    sure, I don't mind.

Clip 4 - I installed 5 more pipe insulators (6 total) on the outside of the bed, instead of just one. I pushed 5 of them up from the bottom and 1 above the vents from the top down thinking it would help surround the vents.
Clip 5 - In addition to the 6 pipe insulators, I installed the door insulation from this thread - https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/wind-and-road-noise-reduction-solution-by-15db-or-so.740602/ . This didn't seem to make that much difference on my newer truck, but perhaps they've upgraded the door insulation in my model year.

I have had my weatherstripping installed for about a month now. There is somewhat of a noticable difference, especially on long cruises. Subtle noises here and there are gone or muted, but for the money spent the return is minimal, because it only effects a narrow frequency range.

I also used an Lshape weather stripping.

I also have had the pool noodle mod done for a couple of months. It has a much more noticable difference, especially with my aftermarket exhaust. Highly recommend the pool noodle mod, and only for $2.

Really? I’m just the opposite. I had my 2nd gen for 13 years and it was way more noisy than my 3rd gen. Same body types too.

My 18 is super quiet, I have Dyno mat under the carpet and behind the back seat. I did this when I did the leather interior install and the seats were out. I added the pool noodle in black so you can't see this. I never had a wind noise, its always been super quiet.

In the gap between the cab and the bed. From under the truck and jam it into the gap.
