Did anything like this winch mount really happen?

So? Does this exist? Looks pretty tight. Photo looks "shopped". But doesn't mean it doesn't exist.

Winch bumper is damn heavy and rather pretentious for what I do. I just like being able to drag and hoist things. And there's no one that makes a capstan type thing anymore right? No PTO for tacomas.

Some make a front hitch, and then you can get a winch and hitch adapter plate and use that. I think maybe Relentless and or CBI make or have made one. Not super sure on the people who have made them, but I have seen it done before.

Don't like the idea of front hitch. Not "classy" enough. I can just use the rear hitch if that's the case. Not quite as sound traction wise, but easier. Whatever guy did on that forum post, he unfortunately couldn't post large enough pictures to see. I'll keep looking.

If there's no kit, it'll have to wait till I move, or hire it out, and I don't want to hire it out. Should be straight forward if there's room in there.

It would also be nice to see someone with an install like that so I could cheat off them.

If this idea were ever possible, I'd be interested. I'm with you on not wanting the extra weight of the winch bumper or the looks.

    subd for future possibility

Ok.. I've found a couple things.
Rasta made? internal winch mounts. I don't see one for the tacoma but this thread
Shows one going on a toyota badged suburban, or is that a 4 runner. Either way, they don't seem to sell them any more. Unless someone could shed some light on if the land cruiser or fj one would work.

The guy's fairlead idea seems to be VERY poorly advised.

Agreed. The fairlead structure will be destroyed by any side load to the fairlead.

the fairlead is good, I have a steel hawse fairlead made to support 8000 lbs using a steel line, I have used it multiple times, in different angles -other than the fact that the steel line wears the paint and makes the hawse fairlead rust, it worked flawlessly. its exactly like the first picture, the entire winch is hidden in the bumper. i will post pictures when i get home.

Lucrum makes one for the FJ. Very nice product if you are interested in keeping the stock look. Maybe contact a fab shop and see what they want to come up with one for the tacoma.

This is for those wondering if it is possible to install a winch in the bumper, IT IS!!! Is it strong and sturdy? Hell Yes, I've pulled myself stuck deep in sand, high grade uphill. Can the fairlead stand abuse? It has.
