I love this, ‘it’s only 20 minutes away’. Sure, it you travel at midnight! It’s an hour during the afternoon commute!

With Waze, now everyone knows the shortcuts! Used to be able to bang down some back roads if the highway got backed up, now they all get clogged up also because Waze diverts everyone. I had Waze take me down a dirt road to avoid some traffic. I didn’t even know there were dirt roads around me!

I want a rack I can attach boxes to like the long roam boxes.
what I really am looking for is a rack that I can put over the top of the bed of the truck that will still allow me to use a rolling cover and then i can mount a kayak holder or bike holder on it

Nashua was nice, and more of the houses had actual city amenities like natural gas heat vs oil

Heck yeah. @Nimble9 if you haven't been to VT (for camping/wheeling, and also Northeast Kingdom for MTB...) - Go. :D

Absolutely. That's why we landed in Providence. Way more "city" than Manchester, way less city than Boston.

Manchester was 30 minutes from Salem, and traffic usually was flowing. No way you're getting to Boston in an hour

Trains help though. I wouldn't make that drive.

There was ONE time - I left PVD around 6AM on a Sunday and got to Salem around 7 ish I think. I was going 85 the whole way, went through Boston - slowed down for the tunnels and that was it. Back when I had the mazda.

It's created a huge problem. There were neighborhoods NOT designed to be a cut through that suddenly are the main route for Waze.

Any of the extruded aluminum racks will work for your boxes. You slide in a 1/4" carriage bolt.

    https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/carriage-bolts-are-stuck-in-prinsu.646436/#post-22423702

Okay, bad example of a thread. I just put some in yesterday, they slid right in and didn't get stuck like this post. Might have to play around with the sizes - metric probably would have worked mint for that one. Mine fit 1/4" carriage bolts perfectly.

Unless you have a whitewater kayak, you'll want to be roof-height for your kayak. I went down that road, there isn't really a "great" solution for bed-height kayak storage. Bikes, yes. Kayaks, no. And mine's only 9.5 ft.

Fair point - a lot of places north of Salem, Nashua, etc - will be on well water and septic. Maybe some of the places around Manchester, Salem, Nashua, and then out by the coast (Dover, Rochester, etc) but as you get further into the sticks, chances are it'll be well water, septic, and no piped NG. Electric heat/appliances unless you truck in propane.

What's the draw to NH? North Berwick, Lebanon ME are pretty close too. Not advocating one way or another, but might be worth looking at and seeing the differences in property values, taxes, etc.

Are you looking to buy or rent?

What rolling cover do you have? If you have the Retrax, there is this one:
    https://www.uptopoverland.com/products/truss-tacoma-retrax-bed-rack
If not, you would need something that sticks out a bit more, like their sod topper version. The other option is you could go Billie Bars:
    https://billiebars.com/products/bed-bars-for-tacoma-trucks

It also depends on what height you want then at, because certain brands only have certain heights.

Just take your time looking around.

Definitely excited to explore! And my company is in Andover MA but you seem to get more land and privacy in NH, plus the tax benefits. That’s why we’re looking at NH specifically. All I want is a normal house with not oil heat and central air conditioning but compared to PA it’s a crapshoot. Hopefully this article is correct

And housing prices drop drastically lol

Oooh you’re coming to our neck of the woods. Awesome. I guess I’ll be more likely to meet you now.

On a side note, has anyone else shown some kind of interest for the diamondback mounted bike carriers?

I've been commuting from Hooksett to Andover for a few months now and I consistently have a 35 minute commute in the morning then about 45 min in the afternoon. Holiday weekends can be a shitshow for a little bit. I'm looking to buy something in the Raymond-Candia area.

    > Andover

    Yeah....yeah that'll do ya!

It drops from 4 lanes to 3 as you get into MA, it's stupid. I assume normal commuter times? Down to Andover isn't bad. There's a chance you get a collision or something that plugs up 93, but it shouldn't be too bad.

YES you get a LOT more outside of MA. I am on the opposite end down near Seekonk (East Providence). We border Seekonk, I can almost throw a tennis ball into Seekonk. My house 1/2 mile away would be 2x the cost.

I don't see the big players (hedge funds etc) buying small houses in southern NH. That would be more around Boston, NYC, etc - Manchester won't draw that investment firm input. But it will drive up prices overall.

Check into working in MA/living in NH. I know there's some tax burden for MA since you work in MA. Also check health insurance. My coworker who lived in MA had like 5x monthly cost for health insurance or something like that. I can't remember the specifics. Also had a bunch of kids so that might have been a factor.

the 93 corridor is a double edged sword. It could be a disaster, but it flows pretty well down to Andover. 125 up through Haverhill and into Plaistow, Hampstead can be an utter shit show on a normal day during commute. But, it might be shorter overall since you can be closer to the border. And, there's a bagel place along the route that's pretty damn good.

Central air is a crapshoot. Not-oil heat is also a crapshoot. There's no standard. Around here, it's all NG heat (we have it piped), A/C is a crapshoot though.

As a matter of fact, I do. One OEM, one OEM with AAL (although it’s still on the truck and I need to swap it out for the ICON).

2 full sets, one I am currently driving on.
If we can rip that off and slap on the ICONs you can have both.

Just be aware the ones with the AAL have a legacy to them.

I love my new truck but miss my Tacoma
It used to be that it went from 3 lanes in MA to only 2 lanes in NH but NH did a huge expansion project opening it up to 4 lanes. MA hasn't kept up and still only has the 3.

What are the Diamondback Mounted Carriers? I have a Diamondback (running a fiberglass shell now), and I just bolted a Rocky Mounts track system to the top of the cover and use the fork mount setups on the track. Is that what you're referring to, or is there something different?

Yup - they blew the 2 into 3 lanes while I was making that commute. Those bridges through Windham are HUGE.

The issue is the shoulder travel ends in Methuen and then opens back up into 4 lanes a mile later.

Yeah they need to expand it but that shoulder travel should just run up to salem and the north commute would...make sense.
