After lots of research and trial and error I found the plug and diagram for the neutral safety switch from the automatic. Got it wired up to think it’s on neutral and been driving well

Only been cruising around the stuff near the house. It’s nice. Gearing is decent. Wish it was a 4.3 vs the 3.8 but will see how it is on the rubicon. Sometimes it’s easy to shift. Other times I can’t get it. Very temperamental. But way more confident with the atlas vs the duals I had

Question for those that have cut and re-tubed their frames on a 1st-gen Tacoma / 3rd-gen 4Runner. What is the best (cheap) way to hold up the engine while modifying the frame rails? Harbor freight does sell these engine support bars, but placing all that weight on the side fenders has me a little concerned. Anyone have experience with these or have a better idea?

1997 t4r has super duty axles, 5.13s locked front and rear. 3 link front with 14" kings. Rear 63s.
Took a 2x3 tube and welded some braces to it. Welded a drop off of round tube to the center and suspended it with a ratchet strap. Used vice grips to clamp it to the fender lip

14bolt is the answer to evrey problem, any power loss can be solved with axle gears.

IMO wheel your truck as is for another 2yrs before you do any more major changes to it.

It’ll be at least a year for sure. I’ve got to finish up our house before doing anything else. I’m torn between really building out the taco or buying an aborted buggy or bouncer and starting on it. I got a little taste of the buggy life at Chocco this weekend and that’s all it took haha really want a cage in whatever is next

I've got a 14 bolt in the rear of mine, dana 60 up front. 6 speed manual with 5.13 gears in the axles. Plenty of power, cruises at 70 pretty nicely.

What tire size are you running? I have an auto so I’m assuming I’ll have to go higher gears then the manual.

40s, it is slightly overgeared but I like it that way.

We are putting 5.29 in a friend's 14bolt, Auto on 40s as well. I think the numbers came out to being pretty close to the same

Great to know. I know for the manuals the speed sensor stuff isn’t a big deal but for the autos it is. Any tips on speed sensors for the auto? So far I’m hoping to do the speed sensor in the tcase as found in the earlier manuals. Stuck with the stock cases though.

    You're putting 5.29 gears in a 14 bolt? You sure it's not 5:13 or 5:38.
