D ring upgrade

I sourced these from a Ford cargo van. Used all the factory mounting hardware from my truck. Now just going to add two more up front using the bed bolts.

Nice, great idea on the tailgate. Never thought of that.

 

IIRC, those bolts up on the tailgate thread into a plastic bushing...I'd have concerns about their sturdiness and not wanting to pull the bushing and bolt right out. Besides that, the tailgate is flimsy metal anyway. I wouldn't count on those holding as much as they do bolted to the bed.

 

They are definately bigger. The stock ones almost fit inside them. And the tailgate thing was purely accidental. Just looking for a place to put the OE ones. Almost like they were meant to be there. Will get #'s and more info posted tonight. Thanks for the feedback.

 

Yea I dont plan on using them for anything heavy, if at all. But they do make it easier to close the tailgate

 

any ever thought about putting these on the other side of the bed? towards the cab?

yeah that is basically what i was talking about but i didnt think it would be that complex to do.

 

Ok guys, the D rings are $13.57 from Ford. The stupid long part # is 9T1Z15550A74B. As much as I hate to say this, they are super beefy compared to ours. And they have the same size hole/bushing, and they have more movement. My dealer said he would have to order them from Tennesse, but no shipping. There ya go!

 

Its like 10 bucks for 10 on ebay.

 

how did you find this part number. where did you order it from?

 

Um, I sell parts for a living and got the # from one of my customers at a Ford dealer. I like these better that any I've seen from TSC or anywhere else. Very beefy, like the stock ones on steroids.

I'm tellin ya. You can get these things by the dozen for what you're paying.
Go to ebay or a hardware site.
I got something a little like this Worked like a charm. Welded d rings with something like a 10000lb working strength. Ebay.. 10 for something like 10 dollars.
Gave the rest to my neighbor and he installed them in his jeep.

Not without some searching. They're easy enough to find. Fine.. setting watch timer for 30 seconds... and.. searching..

These are what I got. Not the same price. But very strong nice quality, not rusting like factory did. They're everywhere.. search for best price. Looks like currently 2 dollars a piece is best.

I too just cut the washers for more support. Plus the hinge laying down is now the same height as the bolt.
Also, After I began to cut the mat for the front as shown I saw that for the center rings all I needed was to make a 2" slot. When I need the ring I lift the mat , raise the ring, push the mat down and it's ready. No noise either way. I wish I would have done the front the same. Update...For the front d-rings I glued the rubber back with tire repair glue, then cut a two inch slot . Hidden when not in use. Hard to see the repair.
Army surplus rings are not cheap quality.
