The ugly stick arrived today and I HAD TO go test it with the speed spool. I have dubbed it the 'speed stick'.

For all the times I joked and said that this lake by me had absolutely zero fish, I proved that to be wrong.

Second or third cast after meeting up with my brother on the speed stick throwing a Texas rig.

    Not a bad night:

Took care of a few things on the truck this afternoon/evening:

First was replacing my reverse LEDs. Upon doing so, I discovered some water in my passenger taillight..

    DE890C2B-7744-4CCA-BCC6-65213E060F58.jpg

Definitely splooged some dielectric grease into the reverse LED connector.

Next, I moved onto the driver's side frame behind the reservoir mount:

No stickers is still the cleanest look. Don't @ me.

Gonna move on to the front of the truck this weekend, hopefully.

    UPDATE:

Driver's side got hyperflash. I tried replacing the transistor and it still didn't work. Back to incandescent bulbs for turn signals. I can't stand hyperflash. I flipped the bulb, I flipped the transistor wires. Nothing.

    Hyperflash. Hyperflash. Hyperflash.

It's odd how only one side got hyperflash when all I changed was the reverse LEDs.

Imagine you had a turd gen, and replaced the license plate bulbs to LED, and then your truck went into limp mode

Wait, you replaced the crispy reverse led and now your turn signal on the drivers side hyperflashes? That makes no sense at all.

I thought it was the transistor but I bought a new one and replaced the old one and it still didn't work. Tried the old bulb and still nada.

    Weirdest thing ever.

Couple of quick, Saturday morning things off the to-do list:

Did the best I could. First time using them and the reservoir hose was too close to the shock body and would have caused issues. But, I still wanted to get the covers as high as I could. I guess we will see what happens.

If you are gonna anti-sieze the plugs, you need to use the copper based stuff. You can buy a ketchup packet sized dose perfect for the job off the counter at most O'reilly's, etc.

The point of lubricated vs dry torque is correct though. The reading will change.

I was considering the copper antiseize

I have a tube in my tool box. Good for bolts you want to come apart again later and also between your rotors/drums and the mating surface of the hub.

I have the regular, tinman antiseize for that stuff. I didn't think that was good for the spark plugs and I was gonna do some research today on the copper stuff for the plugs and if that was a better option or if I should skip it all together.

Copper is for "high heat" applications so makes sense on spark plugs and arguably brake stuff.

Everything else would be more than fine with regular AS.

FWIW I use the silver anti seize and no issues removing the plugs ~35k miles later. I don’t use a torque wrench because of the wet vs dry thing and just go off of feel.

Overall, not bad. About 2 hours in the garage.

I was able to grease the shackles, clean the MAF, spark plug change and install my new oil catch can.

The spark plugs themselves took about an hour and 20 minutes which includes cleaning the MAF. I started on the passenger side and worked around in order to build confidence. Worked out well.

Below, are what I believe to be, an absolute must have for the job. The tiny Milwaukee ratchet helped get the bracket off on the driver's side. The lower bolt is in a tough spot and points upward. The headlight/band is really nice. The DeWalt hood light bar is good but the headlight was a lifesaver.

Definitely recommend making sure you have enough extensions.

    959F61C7-E61E-412A-BCA9-7DFF312DDC50.jpg

Having the print out in the garage made everything run smoothly. Highly recommend.
