There is/was a c-store at the end of 281 that has some decent food. It's just a couple of mins past the entrance to Gorges SP coming from the SC side.

The park has bathrooms but it is all primitive once you are on the trails.

Also, remember, most likely you will hit this at the NC/SC border separating Gorges and Musterground.

This always closed? Was reading that the gates for Musterground were open right now.

Green gates are open right now. I believe This gate is the one that enters onto Duke Energy’s property after you cross the steel bridge over the river. We’ve had to turn around and back track. It is open on occasions but I’m not sure of the schedule

Honestly forgot it was this weekend! I just coincidentally planned on taking the SXS up to Horsepasture Saturday. I’m ready for some fun!

I've never been on the gorges side of that fence. On the bad creek hydro side this is where I enter the trails on the SC side. But there is a gate that the forest service has told me is never opened to the public. It's near the SC/NC border. You can see there is a good bit of trials out there to explore and pretty spots to see the river and lake jocassee.

Yes, that is the Bad Creek/Musterground gate. You don't want to hit it from the SC side.

I have never seen that particular gate open, but there was a brief period after the landslide where it was reported as being open.

Don't forget the overlook at the end of Bad Creek Rd. Gorgeous views!

Now that I think about it, there are a few pull off camp spots with nice Jocassee views before you get to Thompson River if the hunters have not claimed them.

What ^ he said. I got extremely lucky and hit it "open" one time after it slid off the mountain. They've since fixed it and I've not seen it open since.

I do not know about the side roads and such right now. Only the wardens can say for sure. Here is my recommendation for a run, and I am sorry I did not post it earlier.

Day 1: Musterground:: Expect to camp at one of the designated campgrounds near the lake or continue to the hunt camps.
Day 2: Musterground to Chesterbrook:: Chesterbrook Rd to Auger Hole, continue to game lands, then find a camp sure at the river, mor continue up the mountain for fun.

Sorry my details are not better, I would rather just lead the damn run but life...

    Well gents....

Was going to try to head up after work today and camp tonight. Got practice tonight and I won't get home until around 9.

Thought I'd go Friday night to camp and wheel Saturday. Got a game Saturday morning at 9am.

Thought I might go Saturday night, but I'm pretty sure I'm serving security at church Sunday morning.

I'm honestly kind of pissed. I told me wife about this run over a month ago so that there wouldn't be any surprises. Hopefully we can get another group to go in a few weeks.

Damn, thanks for the heads up! I’m actually heading up in a few hours to get there a bit earlier for a decent spot.

Yep. Lots of hate in this world.

"From 1966 to 2000, only 1% of mass shootings were motivated by religious hate. After that, the number escalated. From 2000 to 2014, 9% of mass shootings involved religious hate. That number jumped to 17% between 2018 and February 2020."

    Source: https://projects.voanews.com/mass-shootings/english/locations/worship.html

And that's just "mass shootings" that don't account for fewer than 4 people. There have been other shootings that had fewer fatalities due to armed security. The first one that comes to mind is White Settlement, TX (about 30 minutes from my old house in TX, so it was "close to home.")
