Fastest option is to buy a reman block for $1k.....and a good set of heads for about same....
if you can do most of the work......could end up with a nice truck....ready to run the wheels off again....

Then u get to monkey with the clutch system....wonderer....

25 yr old truck is gonna be a money pit....toyota parts are not cheap......
seen a ton of money dropped on these.....only to have frame break in half.....

Good point about really checking the truck out good before dumping a lot of money into it. If it’s structurally sound it’s a truck that could last you many years of inexpensive and reliable driving.

PO states it's a manual, so no cooler in the radiator. without pics of the oil & coolant, my first guess is the throttle-body heater has corroded and seeping coolant to the intake.
You say the plugs all look normal? My advice, slow down before pulling the engine. Change the oil & filter, drain the coolant. disconnect one of the heater hoses and the lower radiator hose. Then try to flush the block with a garden-hose. Don't refill the coolant yet. Try to clean out that throttle-body and do a compression test. Then decide.

Update- It's been around about a month and some change since I posted on here. So I'll just start at the beginning. All my friends pretty much threw ideas at me on what they'd do. Said ideas ranged from yanking the motor and rebuilding it into a fire-breathing monster to just simply draining the oil, replacing it with oil and diesel mixed together, and seeing if that fixes the problem. Those are just ideas and have got me nowhere. Since most of my friends are all talk, nothing's happened besides FINALLY getting it towed to my house.
Now. This is what I've discovered since I slowly started taking it apart. The throttle body was/is rusted pretty badly. Most of the hoses are in decent condition. Injectors are screwed. And the engine turns over pretty smoothly despite having the weird chocolate milk substance in the block.
As for what I'm going to do, that's simple. Taking it day by day and a little bit at a time. The next step is to drain the oil and see just how terrible it is. I'll upload pictures either today or tomorrow.

After removing the valve cover and intake manifold, this is what me and my friends found...
    yota4.jpg
And this is after we sprayed all the parts cleaner we had onto it. Probably not a smart idea but we were trying to at least make it into a liquid and not let it sit as a jello-like substance.

Now. With that said, I've talked to everyone and asked the big question, should I pull the block and get it tested? General consensus says - Ehhh... Up to you. So now I'm confused on what to do next.
Side question. IF I pulled the block and it's bad, would I be able to stick a 3rz block and a 2rz head together? From what information I can gather they're the same motor but with small differences like the coil packs and displacement. Other than that? They're the same. Probably thinking several steps a head of where I'm at but I'd rather have a backup plan incase I need it.

Wow. Probably pull the engine and transmission. Look for a junkyard pair for under $3k?

No junkyard around here that lets you pull your own parts has a tacoma. At all. Closest one is 3 to 4 hours away.

    4 run, 2 don't
Motors come up here locally for about $200-400 from parted vehicles

Just find a used one locally and toss it in; I would not rebuild that turd

2rz and 3rz block use same head.......and most everything else.....

but but for some crazy reason they use two different oil pumps......

Heads are matched for number of intake ports.....
4 for 2000 and older, 8 for newer.....

Another update- Okay. Several issues happening right now so I'm just gonna skim over them... One, oil still isn't drained entirely. Two, The motor's locked up. Dunno if it's because it's been sitting or because of something else but there's that. Not sure if it was a bright idea to pour oil down the spark plug holes but that's what I did. Hopefully, it'll loosen up and spin over. Three, Found ONE. ONE 2rz for sale at a junkyard. 700. Downsides...One, the junkyard warned me that the truck has high mileage, as in 400K. It's in Ashboro NC. I live in Sumter SC... That's an 800-dollar engine right there thanks to gas and taxes.
