Alloy wheels often have a different angle to the sensors. I found my Gen3 takeoffs from Salt Lake City, lug nuts, and TPMS sensors from great sellers (specialty stores) on eBay Motors. Sensors arrived programmed for 2008-2012 Tacoma OBDII and Costco Tire guys installed everything listed as "Winter Tire Swap 8 tires/4 wheels $49.96" and it was the same amount of dismounting, mounting and balancing, and my friend Mike #1 (of 3, don't call him "senior Mike") said he went around the truck twice and all four aftermarket sensors read into the system. The newer alloy wheels average 1.4 lbs. less than the stock steel wheels they replaced. The important thing to ask the sensor seller is about getting them programmed for the year of the truck's system.

Several years ago, I asked Mike what I should get for a lug wrench since he'd assembled the set of Velox wheels with splined lug nuts on new Michelins for my '07 Malibu, and I'm glad I bought his suggestion: 24" 1/2" drive breaker bar with a 3/4 socket that accepts the socket for the splined nuts. Now it travels with the 6-pt. socket for the Tacoma's wheels, too.

Yes, if the sensors have the angle for alloy rims. The sensor angle to work with steel rims may not fit inside the alloy wheels. TPMS sensors need to be programmed to the year of the vehicle's OBDII system.

I asked the seller of the sensors that I bought about that, and they arrived programmed for 2008-2012 Tacoma. (More detail posted further up this page March 6.) :pccoffee:

Thanks! I have alloy SR5 rims and I’m gonna get new tires before this winter so I figured maybe some new rims to go with it!

If these haven't sold, please try the 2nd Gen For Sale forum.

Sweet! I wish I had known about this deal before finding my set of Gen3 takeoffs from a Salt Lake City tire shop on eBay Motors. Closer ground shipping for the set of four total just over $600, with new TPMS sensors and OEM Toyota black lug nuts also from eBay, total for the works under $800, and the Costco tire guys did a winter tire swap with no complaints about installing aftermarket sensors (programmed for 2008-2012 Tacoma OBDII system), which read into the system with Mike #1 (of 3) making two laps around the truck. Used the Michelin Defender LTX MS tires that I'd only put 2k miles on, the second set replacing the original Dunlops after 13 years. Like yours, my set also came with the Toyota emblem centers, so after replacing a hub center for the original steel wheel at $89, the alloys are a great deal. Really updates the truck, without changing the weight much...

I'm glad I bought Toyota's OEM black lug nuts to use with these wheels...IMG_5970 (2).jpgOther than the reflection from the plastic centers, the hubs disappear. It's magic! Not blacked out chrome...

Put some new skins and 16” off a 19’ today. Funny story I had a 13’ and loved it. Had to sell due to kids for room. Ended up with a 16’ but traded for a 4Runner (had all kinds of issues with the 16’). Wife said I could get another truck so I hunted for a low mile Gen2, I’m a Gen2 kinda guy I love these trucks.

A neighbor bought a 2022 Tacoma and did not like the stock wheels so I was able to snag the wheels for 300. America’s Tire charged me 96 to swap my 09’s tire sensors and mount and balance 4 tires. Since the sensors were original from the 09 there were zero issues.
What does everyone think looks better? Original wheels or black wheels?

I like both. I would personally choose the 2nd gen rims but that’s just me. Go with what you like most. Also side note where are you located? I’ll buy those 2nd gens off you if you are sticking with the 3rd gens.

    Still figuring it out…
My mom got these a month or so ago for $200 on FB marketplace as a surprise for me lol I didn’t think I would like them but they are a-lot better than the originals that were scratched and peeling. I plan on getting some ‘22 sport rims as well, have a set for winter/summer. Does anyone have a pic of a MGM taco with the ‘22 sport wheels?

What was your tire size with this? I think I'm about to buy some of these wheels and I'm trying to decide what tire size. Thank you!
