Steering wheel radio controls are odd, or maybe I'm dumb. Not sure.

Yeah it was like that in my Venza but this Taco man what a nightmare. I have had the truck 1 1/2 years and still not use to the buttons. I got no problem with the volume left and right but the channel changing up down is a real winner. just saying

I agree 100% with you on this. Went from driving FJ cruisers (3 different years) for 10 years to the Tacoma. The controls in the FJ were “correct” and I still hit the wrong one in the Tacoma after 3 years… just not intuitive to me….

Truth. Look at the layout of a previous year Tundra steering wheel. Note the swap of the cursor vs. the Tacoma.
Who is running the Human Factors / Usability show at Toyota anyway. :frusty:

I'm thinking that steering wheel button sends a signal through 4 wires. Also thinking, the 2 wires for up/down sound, could be moved to the position of the left/right channel wire positions. Thus making the button more intuitive to M'erican thinking. Has anyone tried this 'reversal' on either the HU wire ends, or, the steering wheel wire ends?

Yeah I was gonna ask the same question. We have a lot savy computer/electronic guys around to look into this. If it just a easy switching of wiring then we are laughing. just saying

The issue is the controls are a printed circuit board and there isn’t a simple fix short of a custom made replacement.
It was recently discussed again in this revived thread which has some good info, aside from all of the “get used to it and stfu” comments.
I’d gladly pay many dollhairs for this to be fixed...

LED interior, license plate, and fog lights. More to come.
I find it counterintuitive that the left buttons are for the radio when the radio is on the right. I also find the it counterintuitive that volume up and down are left and right buttons on the control pad, instead of up and down ones.

Agree with mostly everyone here that the L-R and U-D are reversed from the way God intended.

if they put them on the right side they'd be within inches of the actual radio itself. the point of having them on the left is so you can use either hand to control the radio.

it's not difficult, it's just a stupid design choice, especially when like every other car ever has it laid out logically.

Question. When you adjust your Radio volume, which direction do you turn it?

Hint: Listen to this for 8 seconds

When someone is playing music nearby too loud, do you tell them to turn that shit left?

It's not that it's difficult for us, it's just a dumb design. The matching the radio is a poor argument. Sure, they match. Who cares? Why couldn't they have designed the radio differently so that the steering wheel controls made sense and still matched the radio?

Raising and lowering the volume is synonymous with up and down. It just makes more sense that way.

There’s no point in trying to reason with the naysayers. They will always use moot points to defend the layout for no apparent reason and flame everyone who dissents from their opinion with personal attacks and insults.

It always goes something like this:
    A) It’s obvious that it’s laid out incorrectly
    B) No! It matches the head unit
    A) Poorly designed GUI isn’t a reason to flip physical controls
    B) You’re an idiot if you can’t learn to use it
    A) I’m just saying it’s counterintuitive
    B) Bitch

Yep….because it was designed by Yota engineers, it’s clearly perfect. We’re only commonfolk, who are we to question them?
