when and if this maggy shits the bed I will be looking at the Hurricane straight 6 twin turbo - runs on regular gas and will be replacing the Hemi.

My take on the Magnuson provided tune is that they are in the business of flatly applying power, not necessarily max power either, and certainly not drivability enhancement.

They had hardware collecting dust without tunes to pair with them for a very long time and needed to move product, and I think it's commonly accepted that the aftermarket will develop tunes for their superchargers regardless of whether or not it's needed, so I figure they just pushed out their kits with a safe base calibration and banked on others to step up and address deficiencies. Like you said, they got their money.

The 2002 Tacoma was also half the MSRP of the 3rd gen. I don't know if that makes you feel better or worse...

the 3rd gen S/C is also significantly more complex than the 1st gen S/C. you can install a 1st gen in a couple hours. 3rd gen is 1-2 day install. 1st gen had no tune, 3rd does. 1st gen had no intercooler, 3rd gen does. etc. etc.

I know...I remember when a Tacoma was a 20K truck! Re: cost, I'm really happy about the 3rd gen kit now that I'm running the Stryker tune, even though it was tough to swallow. I don't want to say I had buyers remorse, because it made a huge difference towing at elevation even with the Mag tune, but I was underwhelmed for the price. Now that I'm on the aftermarket tune, I couldn't be happier with it, price be damned. It's now incredible to drive.

Curious, was your truck tuned prior to this without the S/C? I know plenty of 3rd gen guys who have said the KDmax tune was worth more in terms of price to performance payout

It was not. I went from stock to Magnuson, so I can't comment on the impact of any N/A tunes.

Gotcha. I'm curious to know. I'm a first gen'r but may be moving to a 3rd gen and have heard mixed to hateful reviews about the stock engine/tune setup so I was researching S/C's

Can't speak for everyone but I think a lot of that is from the folks with the auto. I was really happy with the 3rd gen in stock trim aside from the lack of power for towing / mountain driving with the manual transmission. I also came from a 1st gen, and never had a 2nd gen.

True... but at this point it's all gravy on that kit. No one would pay $5700 for a non-intercooled and outdated rotor pack SC kit.

I went from KDMax to Magnuson SC with their tune to Magnuson SC with the YotaWerx tune.

KDMax was good, huge improvement over a stock 3rd Gen.

Magnuson stock tune had the horrible transmission shifting issues from the stock truck, but power increase was definitely noticeable to me over KDMax.

YotaWerx SC tune is a whole other level - truck shifts great again and power increase and power delivery is a very big difference from the stock Magnuson tune. I'm loving my truck as it is now.

1st gen - it's got a built engine, a turbo, and waaaaaaay too much to list. 3rd gen - basic-bitch lift, S/C, Pro Wheels
Welp, your price point is excellent! That's not to say I'm not happy with the Stryker tune because I definitely am, and do not regret jumping on it and being one of the first to buy, because I'm extremely satisfied with how it runs now and the future updates to come. But I'll be damned if you don't get business based off your dyno graph and price point.

They used to sell for 2500, then price went down to 1800 for a few years.

I bet the two tunes wouldn't be too far off if comparing apples to apples. I may be wrong but, from what I've seen most of the trucks that dynoed the Yotawerx stryker tune and posted numbers were on larger and heavier wheels and tires which eat up HP. OTT was done on a stock truck so assuming stock tires as well.

I'm also very happy with the Yotawerx tune but It's good for the market to have more players.
