My trailer rv shorted out my towing harness sos

So I’m pretty upset this happened. I traced down the frame wire and it only went a couple feet down by the left rear tire and can be easily re wired I think. Could someone send me a wire diagram and tell me what that gray/black does and how I can get another one.

Can't tell by pic but if that 7 pin still has a few inches of wire use a heat shrink butt connector (or 2) and fix it and/or add new piece of wire.

While you have that connector unplugged (your 2nd pic - up behind bumper rotate latch and pull apart) time to move the 7 pin from underneath the bumper to into it - just drill a hole and bolt it in as the stock location gets beat as you saw. You can fit it between lic plate and lic light or pull a lic light socket out and drill/mount there as only required to have 1 light.

 

Are you sure you don't have too big of fuse installed somewhere? Factory wiring shouldn't melt like that if the correct fuses are used, the fuse should blow first.

 

yeah, it’s stock Fuse sizes from the dealer. Haven’t really changed any of the years.

 

You should see what happened to my rv trailer side :/ it’s horrible. Almost caught fire

 

If there’s enough wire and you can reuse the harness, you can probably go with a unit like this:

You’ll need to replace that bad wire as @TnShooter suggested and use better connectors than the included butt type. Something that seals up around the wire, and maybe add heat shrink tubing on top of that, plus the wire loom.

And these may not fit in the factory position, if so you’ll be following @TnShooter’s other suggestion regarding relocation.

Thank you guys for the suggestions!!! I just ordered those 2 things I linked cause after researching some reviews it’s plug and play. Then going to re wire the main wire frame which only fried to about the rear tire luckily. Forsure going to take the idea and mount it on the bumper not under cause when I do climb big stuff you are so right. It gets smacked and bent/ have to bend back

 

Now the really important question... Did you locate the problem in the RV that fried your harness?

 

All that blueish green shit is corrosion of the copper wire. May have been enough to cause a high resistance connection at the spade. Which led to the localized heating of the wire. Id also check the factory fuse for any signs of overheating. Ive seen that once before where it got hot, but not hot enough to pop..

 

My old furnace did it, started from the thermostat wire by the module board. Got a new one but that system it went to is inside the walls and I have to leave for winter season soon. For now just going to re wire all my stuff to my solar system and renovate/ re wire after winter in Mexico for cheap labor lol. Perks of being by the boarder

 

the fuse inside the cab blew by the door. Was the harness fuse/ac/blinkers. I checked all the other ones during that process and were okay but that one. I just found out about the fuses under the seat and inside the jack area ? Gonna check those out later today after work

 

Ahh ok, I didnt realize your problems were that extensive first time I read through. That it was just right by the trailer plug.

Im not aware of any factory fuses in those locations you mention?

Still kinda expensive. I’m 100$ into replacment parts and wires and it’s an upgrade that gives me a 4 pin right next to the 7 pin. Even if I saved 20-50$ it’s still more expensive oem which is dumb but they can do what they want lol
