Look up the OTT(overland taylor tune) and the KDMax Pro XT tune threads. I understand your gripe. I loved my truck, except for the shifting and spongy gas pedal and irradic power/acceleration curve. Both these tunes will wake up your truck and give it more torque and hp, and fix those issues i mentioned above. I got the OTT tune and it definiely has more low end torque and shifts as it should in all gears and speeds. Yes, a tune WILL make your Taco better. You shouldn't have to push buttons and use alternate modes to make it perform like it should.

No need to convince anyone. What’s important is it works . Satisfying drive on long inclines and no more sudden downshifts to 3rd or 4th from 6th . Just let them be . They already made up their minds . It’s their taco they do or not do what they want.

I had a gutless 3.0 v6 in my 93 toyota 4wd pickup. Driving this 3.5 v6 tacoma is a rocket in comparison. I recently came from a v8 4.7 tundra that had a bit more torque, but this tacoma still makes it look slow.

This is exactly what I want, so as soon as possible I'll get the KDMax tune. Thanks

    I second this suggestion.

OP, looking for a Tune that meets your needs is your decision.

Definitely read through both suggested/all available tunes in TW.

I've been driving with OTT tune since May 23, 2022 and had 2 updates--most current 8.0 with gear lock (Sep 18, 2022).

Did you sign the deal and pay for it before driving it?

the vehicle will adjust to your driving. so the normal driving would be fine, but when you floor it you will still feel the hesitation between the transmission and engine to see who is making the first move. if you get use to it you can act in anticipation.
also there is a tsb for updating the TCM since yours is a 2017 it may have not been done and your still have the chasing gears condition.
you can try a pedal commander or similar throttle mod or pay for at tune to get better throttle response.

None to speak of, just enjoying it for the moment.
So, I have less than 3000 miles and my new Tacoma but I am noticing the engine transmission is adjusting to my driving habits quite well, I think. When I look back to how the truck performed when I first got it in August, I can now see a distinct improvement in the way it responds to my way of driving. Mind you I am coming from a performance sedan and have always had a "heavy foot" and my biggest fear moving to a truck was the lack-luster performance (which is not a knock on Toyota, it is a truck after all not a performance sedan). At this point I would call the performance acceptable. There's no doubt the engine really hits its power band much higher up in the RPM range which is not traditionally where trucks typically or historically perform best, this is clearly something Toyota did not have an answer for, though their new 3.4 twin turbo V-6 in the Tundra does finally offer the low-end torque most preferred in a truck.
Is there any tune that does not void the MFR warranty?

from KDMax and OTT they say it wont trigger any fail safe and will not be detected by toyota in case of a warranty claim.

OK guy's where is the thread about the OTT Tunes, I've already researched the KDMax tune thread, but found nothing about the OTT or OV one.

This is probably the best explaination I've ever heard about the 3rd Gen Tacoma transmission. He did a series on the Tacoma. I learned some things so it was worth watching.

No money, all went to truck...
Does autos have the ECT button?

Yeah, manual here, power really kicks in at 3000-3500 rpm. It's really really fun to drive with a manual. I got sprint booster and that helps rev up much faster. Still has a dead spot in second gear but avoidable revving up in first gear.

I could see how crappy the experience would be if transmission is trying to shift at 2200 rpm. You never get into the HP/Torque. Mash that pedal!

Yes it does. As long as I'm not in traffic and can accelerate freely it runs good if I just give it more throttle, but in traffic it sucks. Tuning is going to be scheduled after the first of the year.
