This chirp noise sounds kind of like a loose belt or bad idler pulley. It's done it a few times so far, stays a while then goes away the next day or so. It does it when sitting in neutral and gets louder with higher rpm. Soon as I press the clutch in it goes away.

Anyone else had a similar noise?? I'm surprised as it's a third gen manual with only 65000 kms.

I had similar symptoms on two previous vehicles (Subaru and ranger) both had the chirp/squeal with clutch out or light pressure on pedal for a while and then went from that to completely dead throw out bearing within 20 miles of city driving. Once it starts to fail, it may go quickly so be ready.

I've never had to change a clutch yet in previous vehicles. Pretty disappointing if I have to change it on a Tacoma at
    70 000 kms.

Most likely the throw out bearing going bad but something else to check...Had this chirping on my Subaru and I was pretty baffled as I recently had a new clutch put in. It was intermittent and would chirp when I was driving or idling, but never when I was pressing on the clutch. Even the lightest pressure on the clutch pedal and it would go away. Turns out, it was the clutch fork vibrating and just needed some grease.

My Miata has exactly the same issue as what you said. I replaced the clutch 4 years ago, I get occasional chirps/squeaks but if I just tap the clutch it will stop. I guess this spring I will be applying some grease, I was worried it was my TO bearing going out again.

The belt makes a pretty annoying chirp noise. It's possible, check out that TSB.

Yeah, couple guys at the shop I use thought they needed to warranty the bearing and got a second opinion from the master tech. He walks out, pops the hood and reaches way down and put pressure on something, it immediately stopped chirping. Learn something new everyday. Said they should have greased it when the clutch was replaced so they did it no charge next oil change.

It was the clutch fork needing to be greased.

Do you know if they had to drop the transmission to do it?

I had the same exact issue with mine and just had the mechanic tell me the chirp was coming from the clutch fork bearings failing. Thought it was the throw out bearing but once they pulled the trans they discovered it was the bearings on the fork.

A bad throw out bearing will usually make noise if the clutch is disengaged (pedal is depressed).

So I’ve got some chirping going on. Pretty disappointed to be honest, only 40k miles. My ranger had 165k miles when I sold and had zero MT issues.

When I press the clutch, the noise goes away. So that means it’s clutch fork bearings?

Anyone had any luck fixing this other than new throw out bearings?

My truck fixed itself :) Seriously though, 99% of the time the bearing is silent. I might hear it for a sec or two here and there. Im not worried about it at all and I do tow heavy at times.

There is only one throw out bearing by the way.

Lol, mine comes and goes too. Sometimes I think it's when it's hot out, other times it seems like dropping the clutch with a good chirp of the tires fixes it for a while. I can't hear it inside the truck but going through town I can usually hear it bouncing off buildings etc. so frustrating though. I'm going to do a whole shift fork and bearing with everything else that touches it this winter, we'll see how long that lasts
