I know I am, just wish I had the tools, skills and abilities to follow munkeywrench lead.

 

I haven’t quite decided which route I’m gonna go yet, just watching this one so I can learn as much as possible

And absolutely nothing against munkeywrench but, he’s not the only one who’s done this‼️ Like he says there’s A LOT of support in the LS Community. Fix the trunion and the little oiling issues, they’ll run forever, make good no, can make GREAT horsepower, lightweight and they’re smaller than the Yota 4.0L. Plus I bet an alloy block motor is lighter than our 2TR.

It’s been done to an X already. Plans were to have one installed in the little white 07 Reg. cab we have but I was presented with a proposition I couldn’t turn down on the supercharger. If the Haltech doesn’t wake up this setup it maybe going up for sale!

 

What oil pan do you have?

 

My apologies and NO disrespect to the OP but here’s another member’s LS swap. God if the Haltech doesn’t wake up the Magnuson it’s going bye-bye. Some gentleman insisted I give him a price on our free & clear 2015 access cab. So I did and he took possession 5 days later. Love to swap in a new LT alloy L83 or L84 (the updated LS) w/ direct injection and a manual Tremec. The lowest HP rating for a 5.3L is 355hp & @ 400# torque on regular pump gas. So for anyone setting on the fence about an General Motors engine swap do it!

Im using the stock 5.3 oil pan. It fit just fine.

Do you call how long it took to do the conversion?

 

I just looked through my photo album because I was curious also lol. I got the engine and trans on 12.6.19. I got it ready for the install and Key off V6 out was 12.28.19. The first drive with the LS Swap was 2.27.20. So almost 3 months.

 

Ok so not too crazy then. Looking back what was the thing/s that took the longest to tick off the list? I could imagine the wiring would take a while.

 

100% had to be the wiring. Not exactly the LS engine harness, that was very simple and took about 2 days. I wanted my truck to remain as factory as I could so I spent my time getting things to work like they're supposed to. The gauge cluster worked and was the biggest pain. I fought the RPMs since I was trying to get a V6 gauge to work with the GM V8 signal.

 

That makes sense. Good to know that LT1swap info makes life a lot simpler to do something like this. Making it look factory adds another level of a clean engine conversion I think and that's what I would do as well.
Did you use a Dakota Digital box to match up the 2 different signal's?

 

I used a resistor in the circuit. It wasnt perfect but pretty close.

If I ever do another swap I would just change the settings in the ECU using HP tuners. I didnt know you could do that until after I had it working properly.

 

That's good to know. Trying to source the parts required for a swap and keep 4wd.

 

Nice, 4WD was something that was always on my mind but never did it. There's definitely plenty of room under there to make it fit nicely.
