Looks like you found the perfect wire for a hidden disable switch.

Update: fixed! I was able to skin the little wire on the connector and soldered the wire back together. Was a real paint to get to and to position properly but I think I got a pretty good joint on it.

Thanks to everyone who helped! Greatly appreciated! Saved me a couple hundreds $.

Glad you fixed it, at the end, it is you who found the broken wire. Good Job....

More likely a couple of thousand. The dealer would have probably insisted on replacing the harness. :annoyed: :spending::spending::spending:

KUDOS! You might want to place a simple loop of electrical tape behind it it and close it off such that there is little to no possibility the 12V can make any contact with something grounded. The tape would also add a little bit to mechanical stability.

Looks like he managed to get some heat shrink around it based on the first picture of his repair

Put some tape around that and order the correct tool to repair it properly. I wouldn't bet on that lasting and I definitely would want some short protection in the mean time.

Side note, why on earth does it require removing the entire fuse and soldering a jumper to make the center console always on? Couldn't you just add-a-fuse it to another already always on fuse?

Thanks for pointing that out. Even better than electrical tape. Insulating, and mechanically sound solution there. "OEM".

I got some heatshrink on it as seen it the other pic. It’s not gonna short.

I’m all open for ideas to use the stock 12v, but add a fuse would require some splicing somewhere else. If it wasn’t for my mistake, it would’ve been a quite easy mod. If I decide to redo it anyway, it’ll probably take me 15min max. Nothing complicated when you know what you’re doing.

And all of this hassle / potentially expensive repair was just so that your cigarette lighter would always have power? Pretty high risk for minimal reward IMO.

PS: Remember these wise words from Engineer Montgomery Scott:

I know -- but that post doesn't answer why pulling the entire fuse box and soldering a jump is the most sensible way to do this when an add-a-fuse to an always-on fuse is much, much safer. I guess it's a question for that thread.

I'd much rather splice a cable than pull the entire fuse box and take a soldering iron to it. As a bonus, you've now done both! ;)
