The elves understand that there are some folks unhappy with the participation requirements, including some members that have been long standing good Santas. The goal was to make the participants time more enjoyable while stalking their giftee's TacomaWorld activity, instead of seeing a handful of comments and an Amazon wish list. This event is about the community and stalking an active user's posts helps you realize how diverse the interests of the community are, you may see new mod ideas, learn about a cool place to vacation, or what not to watch on Netflix.

The requirements have evolved over time to improve the experience of the Santas and elves while reducing bad Santas. We went from no requirements in 2019 with over 200 participants to requiring a year-old account and 400 posts in 2020 and had 150 participants. 2021 raised the minimum post count to 750 and had 90 participants but had zero bad Santas, which had existed in many prior years. Now with the requirement that members are active, this year we are down to 55. The irony of trying to ensure quality over quantity but requiring a higher post count is not lost on us. The hope is that everyone has a great time participating and following along with this year's TWSS and those that didn't make the cut decide to be more active on the forum and we will welcome them next year.

 

Interesting numbers. I wonder if a permanent TWSS ban on bad Santa’s would be enough to weed out the flakes? It does seem like a short list this year.

Keeping up with the data is proof that the elves actually care about the process. I appreciate y’all and I’m looking forward to a challenge with my recipient.

Rock I’m good to see familiar faces and my past TWSS giftees all in the list again this year.

 

Some of us have always like to do the santaing for the giving and not so much the receiving, but oh well.

 

No arguments from me, You have all done a hell of a job over the years, and honestly its one of the only things that keeps my spirits up this time of year. So thank you to all the Elves involved!!!

Very true re the critters, the shelter I bring stuff to has said the same. And definitely re fuel in general. Working from home in the winter months is almost more costly from a purely financial standpoint, as I have to keep the heat on all day.

 

Agreed. Doing this is the only time some of us receive gifts, so it does make a difference!!

 

Bummed I didn't make the cut due to missing the post count yet respect the elves rules to set the bar high to weed out the bad Santas. Next year?
