If you want to stay OEM style, I would pick up a third GEN suspension and throw it on there

 

What will you be using it for? Offroading, hunting, work, hauling stuff, camping, commuting?

 

Daily Driver. She's all I got.

 

You made a wise choice, Tacoma’s are reliable.

What’s it got? 2.7 or 4.0, auto or manual?

If it lived or lives on salted roads, check the frame for rust and rust holes. If lives is a yes, you need to be proactive on prevention. Read up on what others are doing with things like wool wax, fluid film, crc hulk jizz.

General maintenance. If you don’t know how well it was maintained, assume the worst. It’s not uncommon for someone to find the original plugs in with 90-100k miles, recommended interval is 30k. Assume the other long interval preventative maintenance items have been ignored like transmission fluid or gear oil, differential gear oil.

Next use it as your daily driver. Create your own wish list. After driving it for awhile, you’ll find things you wish were better. Such as, I wish the sound system sounds better. I wish I didn’t have to hold my phone in my hand while driving. I wish it was faster. I wish I didn’t get stuck in the mud.

Remove the front mud flaps.
The truck looks better that way in my opinion.
Plus, it’s free

 

Remove TRD graphics.
Rattle-paint the rims black.
Tint the windows.

3rd gen Tacoma suspension? Lexus GX470 front calipers? Gen 1 tundra wheel cylinders? Gen 2 tundra dual diaphragm brake booster?

 

Looks like a V6. 4bangers don't have fender flares from the ones I've seen.

 

I have a 3" lowering kit, Gen 3 wheels and Bilstein shocks.
Couldn't be happier

 

Why a lowering kit?

 

Better aero, cornering.
I can feel the difference when I go into OD!

 

Mine sits lower with stock suspension. I'm definitely happy having a lower bed, easier for my old bones to climb in when I have to.

 

are 3rd gen suspensions that much nicer?

 

Yes. The 3rd gen TRD OR suspension is much nicer rides a bit more firmer. Also it has a 700 lb coil spring so it will give you a 1 in lift. The rear leafs will also give you a firmer ride as they are a bit thicker than the recall springs.
