FYI 5th gen 4Runner manual shift case (VF2A) is the same as the FJ that comes behind the A750. Picked this up a couple weeks ago for my 03' V8 4Runner on car-part.com as well.

Nice! Didn’t know the 4 runner case fits on the Tacoma as well. I guess appropriate cases for the swap is just dictated by what transmission it goes behind? I have the A750 (don’t know what the digits mean) so the 4 runner and FJ t cases both fit considering they both have a 21 spline input

Yes Sir. I learned about the swap from @xtremewlr in the first place. I knew the FJC and 5th T4R had the same A750 and after a little research on car-part.com, I realized it had the same manual shift T-Case. There are only a couple 5th Gen models that carry the manual though, but the car-part site cross references anyway. The one I just picked up was out of a 2012 T4R. Under the FJC Wikipedia search lists the case as the VF2A.
    From Wikipedia:
    *Five-speed A750F automatic transmission with VF2A transfer case on part-time 4x4 models*

I have a 23 spline. It needs a 23 spline to go to the a750

the older 4runners (non turbo) had 21 spline. The newer trucks almost all use 23 spline, some used 26. The one from the FJ cruiser is 23 spline as well as the manual shifting cases from the 5th gen 4runners.

'A' is the design generation, 750 is the transmission family, and the end letters of each transmission are (L - Hydraulic lockup , E - Electronic Control, D - Overdrive, H/F - All-trac/4wd, i - intelligence)

That’s exactly where I want the shifter to come up through—the coin slot. Did you have to modify the shifter from the t case or is that where it just happened to come up?

You do have to modify the shifters with an offset and then extend and bend them to fit into the pencil holder and not contact each other.

2nd GEN faulty 4x4, stealership is trying to hit me with a $3000 job for tcase ADD. Truck currently stuck in 4HI. Bro I've been wondering about whether or not you can manually push/pull the shaft into 4HI and 4LO. If I remove the tcase ADD am I able to manually set that the shaft into position for 4HI and 4LO?

yes it’s very easy a couple of bolts and the actuator pulls off the shift rail and you can manually push it forward to shift into 2wd

edit: here you go there’s also a video in this thread:

Thank you 6 Gear!!! I've been wondering that, saw a video on youtube where the guy said that was only possible with the 3rd Gen. Will do that to get truck out of 4x4. I am slowly starting to plan out the FJ tcase swap. Hoping for the best. Reading into the "Delete your electronic ADD" thread, is the axle tube swap necessary? Sorry if that is a dumb question. I was just thinking, I can pull the front diff ADD slide the sleeve into locked position and then just disconnect the electrical components to leave it in a locked position.

yep that’ll work. Deleting the add is not necessary you can slide the fork over. That’s my old username there too I write that thread many years ago :)

Okay I'm dredging up a slightly old post. Here's my question. I have a 2005 automatic sr5. I absolutely hate the goddamn electronic switch thing. It's just junk and it doesn't work. Oh yeah sometimes you can back up and try it all over again or pull forward and try it over again and then it goes into four wheel drive like it's supposed to. Technically mine goes in most of the time where is my wife's 2007 4Runner Works about one out of every seven times. Anyway want to know what I can do to swap mine over to a manual stick. I don't need dual transfer cases and all of that because I don't go rock crawling. I just want a four-wheel drive system that is 100% guaranteed to work like it's supposed to when I tell it to. And I don't want to have to pull off the road stop put it in park hold my foot on the brake and see if it's going to work then put it in neutral try it all over again see if that's going to work.

you’ll want an FJ case swap and 6 speed FJ tube. Doable for under $800 if you find a FJ case for good price

It's possible the mounting points and widths are all the same for the 120 platform (Tacoma, FJ, 4Runner, Lexus GX).
The Full time 4x4 4th and 5th gen 4runners might be an option for a front diff tube also. All the 4th gen V8 4x4s had full time and some of the V6 4x4s (Limited I think). My 5th gen Limited is Full Time. The Lexus GX tube may be an option, but the Lexus name draws more money for their parts.

I've also read that the full time tubes might be a little stronger because of this feature. My 4Runner swap with the full time tube has been working well so far with several thousand miles on it.
Edit: Oh by the way, Merry Christmas!

That looks like it'd be the perfect setup in the wives 4runner. But everything about the center console looks different than my Tacoma. Anyway I'm not quite sure I'm understanding what you mean by the four-wheel drive tubes versus the all-time four-wheel drive tubes. I want to be able to turn four wheel drive on and off obviously with the lever so I guess that's the part that's confusing me
