Can a 2wd 5 lug look like a pre runner with a lift?

Hey peeps,

I love my regular cab 5 lug. But I love the stance and look of the stock 4x4 models. My question is, can one make a 2wd 5 lug look like a stock 4x4 version via a lift? I’m looking in to having my suspension changed up and may take the opportunity to have it lifted.

I searched the forum and found that awesome regular cab photo thread so that’s where most of my inspiration comes from. I didn’t see any 5 lugs in there with the stance though. Here are some pics, from that thread, that id want my truck to look like… (thanks in advance to the owners of these trucks I’m posting and hopefully it’s cool I screen shot and upload)

is it goofy to lift a 5 lug? I would probably take it on light trails/fire roads and camp with my kiddo. Maybe I install a winch in case I’m traveling without a buddy and get stuck…

 

My friends 5 lug was one of the first to run the TC Long travel kit. It was in the centerfold of their catalog when it first came out.

Here is my 97 when it was still a 5lug. 6 inch suspension lift in 31s it was pretty capable on fire roads and desert trails.

 

Mine certainly doesn't look like a PreRunner though, and it barely looks lifted unless I park next to a stock 5-lug RC...

 

Nice - where can I see a pic? I’d like to keep mine as close to stock height too — it’s easy to load stuff on top of my camper, etc.

 

Factory tire size is 215/70R15, and I'm running 235/75R15 to fill the fenderwell gap...

 

put 31-32s on it with a spindle lift and shackles in the rear. Will be at nearly same stance of a stock prerunner. 5 lugs are good for what they are. Just dont expect to rock crawl and you'll be able to hit most forest trails/ service roads at a good pace.

 

A lot of people have assumed my truck is 4WD, just because it's a truck; I've also had people assume that it has at least 6 cylinders, again just because it's a truck.

On another note, I was hit in a parking lot in August or September of 2020. The truck was parked, the keys weren't in the ignition, and I wasn't even in the truck (though I did see it had happen). An adjuster from the at-fault party's insurance company came out to do an estimate, and he needed a rundown of what options the truck had so he could determine the actual cash vlaue; I'm guessing the crank windows made him think that my truck was a lot more no-frills than it actually is, because he expressed legitimate shock when I told him my truck has A/C...

2010 was the final year in which A/C was an extra-cost option on the Tacoma, and I've only seen one 2nd Gen without A/C (a red 5-lug RC up in Maine at least a decade ago), and my truck has all the options you could get on a base model 5-lug RC in 2010...

• Automatic transmission
• Sliding rear window

I added intermittent wipers, cruise control, and a backup camera.

Thanks! I was running Cooper Discoverers in 225 before the lift kit, and luckily those were due for replacement right around the time I got the lift kit installed so there was only a brief period where the tires were too small. These pictures were taken immediately after the installation in March 2021...

Also, my truck is definitely clean, but dents don't always show up in pictures taken with an iPhone. The interior carpet is also in dire need of replacement, and the driver's side kick panel has a broken tab, so it's loose. If I had a bit more money, and if I could find a totaled 2009-2011 RC with a clean a interior, I would just replace the majority of the interior. The truck has almost 161K miles as of this post, but it had the frame replaced under recall in November 2021, and it just had some major engine work done in October 2022. The front brakes, all four tires, two oxygen sensors, the alternator, and at least three U-joints have all been replaced since December 2021...

iirc the shackle lifts for 6 lugs work for 5 lugs, someone may need to correct me tho

.... also you're telling me that all I need to do is install these things, slap some 31/32's on it and it'll sit like a preRunner!?!
