Basically it’s the same overall diameter tire.

No need to guess or speculate about gearing. Go to http://www.grimmjeeper.com/gears.html and plug in your truck's stock specs on the left side and then plug in the new information on the right.

Bw s256 turbo with 3 in glass pack dumped pre axle raptor liner bed and top rails and fenderflares and rocker panels. Hunter side steps. Plasti-dipped upper fenders and emblems. satin black spray paint here and there inside and out. 5100's set to 1.75" up front . C channel front bumper. Maxxis bighorn 255/85/16
Dang where are the "cheap" 255's? Lol I got my first set for like $175 a tire (big horns) I kinda wish some retreads would make this size, it would be my dedicated hunting season tire since I have 2 sets of wheels, but that doesn't seem to be a thing. $252 a tire really about the best thing going right now for mts?

I saw this truck at Cal Ranch today. It looked great! I have the same truck, in white. Got me thinking…255’s…hmm. Obviously lifted, and quickly inspected…no sign of rubbing.

I'm planning on getting the Trail edition bronze wheels which, to my knowledge, has a 4mm offset. If I got those wheels with 255/85r16s will the tire sit inwards of the fenders or will they be poking out slightly compared to stock trd off road wheel and tire size? I prefer tires to sit flush with the fenders and was wondering if I'd need spacers or if the difference in offset and/or tire width is so small, it wouldn't make much of a difference?

Those who have gone down from a 285/75/16 to a 255/85/16, did you see any sort of MPG increase? I'm looking into skinnies since they would be the better option for my local terrain and also want to save some gas on my next set of tires. Thanks

255/80r17 here. Toyo AT3, No lift, 17" T4R sr5 wheels. So far so good, I only have about 1000 miles on them. Mileage took a little hit but after the OTT tune is seemed to equal out.20221125_123803.jpg

Ran two different brands, and three sets of 255s/85s/16s. These are the KM2s I believe in the pic. The set in the pic got me from TX to AK and back, with a fair size load out. Yet I had hell to pay keeping them balanced and had to get them re balanced in Canada, using a lot of weights. Killed my mileage, with a poor rooftop load catching the wind far to much. How much was attributed to the tires is not certain, but they added their fair share of weight. I went from the sticker 19mpg to 10 mpg with my load out. I adjusted quick, but live and learn.

The other two sets were Cooper ST Maxx 255/85R16 and I was very happy with both sets.

I have a 2011 TRD Dbl Cab and the Tacoma chop on the frame/wheel well area, yet still need the spacers (2nd pic, more weight) to run those tires with an Icon Dynamic lift all around.

Currently running 265/75/16s and enjoying the additional gas mileage, with a bed rack and RTT, and the look is solid enough. As large and skinny as I can afford ATM.

Running Toyo Open Country 255/85/16 on my yota. No rubbing no issues during articulation. I added a 1/4” spacer just to make me feel better about it.

Anyone make the switch from 285/75:16 to 255/85/16? What kind of wheeling do you do? Any noticeable changes?

also has anyone run the Yokohama M/T G003? Part of the reason I want to downsize is because I’m tired of the wear and tear from the big ass tires. As far as pizza cutters go I’m a little surprised by how heavy they are. The yokos are the lightest pizza cutters but I’m wondering if that means they are also susceptible to damage on trails. I do a fair amount of rock related activities on the trails.

I don’t have the Yoko’s but I’ve been looking at them for a long time. You may be able to find some answers here:

I'm running/wheeling the Geolanders. They are a softer compound, so you really don't need to air down all that far, I think I ran 25psi at AOAA last year, and my last time at Rausch Creek I was at 32. A bit rough at 32 on washboard, but it was warm and I had plenty of grip. You will rip rubber if you go skinny peddle mad on rocks, no worse than nittos though. No punctures yet.

Oh good to know. I frequent AOaA mostly and occasionally Rausch so this is great insider info. What kind of trails do you do at AOaA typically?

    Happy and sad day.
    Going to 37s.
I have been 100% happy with my 255/85r16s Toyo MTs but I'm going bigger.

That depends on who I am with. There are only a few blacks, and they are mostly just larger rocks, so blues are the targets. Gotta run the greens and cross the waters to get to the blues and blacks. The biggest issue at AOAA are the washouts, Raush was also washed out this year as well.
