Finally getting around to installing my soundproofing (Mat 66) and the panel on my access cab. I'm presuming that I'm supposed to leave this in place since it's keeping water from getting in, but test fitting the panel has it in contact with it?

I'm not even sure how I'd remove it, anyhow, because it seems like it needs to be pushed out rearwards, at which point the bed (and camper shell), interfere...

That's a horrible idea. What time?
I wouldn't be in a hurry to play with that. What kind of panel are you putting in? Can you get spacers behind it to move it off the vent?

IIRC, you can pull it off into the cab area.

That thing is a vent, allowing you to close your doors.

I ended up cutting mine, so it didn't intrude so deeply in the cab (needed to that so it cleared my molly panel). However, you want to leave the foam in there - it acts as a sound deadener, blocking a lot of sound from outside.

Are you talking about the foam on and around that rear vent, or are you talking about the foam that was behind the rear seat panel?

Uh. I didn't remove mine and I was able to place my molle panel directly over it. When I eventually put my HDPE panel behind the molle panel to act as a further sound block for that vent, I just put it over the top of it and bolted it down. You shouldn't HAVE to move it/mess with it. But yes, it's pointed upwards to keep water from intruding into your cabin. I wouldn't take it out OR modify it.

https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads...en-tacoma-today.6499/page-11391#post-26717876 - I put the pictures here, but that was just throwing the HDPE board over the vent, then the molle over it.

My first attempt was just covering the vent itself with some drawer liner and hoping for the best. It did not work nearly as well.

How effective was that for the noise reduction? I have that same molle panel, and even with the vents closed I still get a lot or road noise, even after sound insulating.

    In the vent itself.

Well, I put butyl then closed cell all over the back wall and that works great, the vent was the only pain in my ass in terms of road noise. Once I put the HDPE over it I didn't notice it nearly as much, and I can play my music on low and hear tire drone through the floor more than road noise in the back. It's still not as quiet as having the whole OEM panel with the deadening blanket but it's real close. I could not, for the life of me, get it quieter without adding the HDPE panel as a noise block.

Thanks. I'll look into it. i would like to make my delete permanent, since it's usually just me and the dog, but I need the noise issue solved first.

Yeah, a quick test drive on city streets has me thinking that I'll need to put something in the gaps between the panel and the rear cabin wall, and also do something about the vent. TBPH, though, it's not terrible. Not like I need to turn the radio up louder to hear it or anything.

Could also simply be that I've only drive the truck a few miles since mid-December, and am simply not remembering how loud it is.

    Came out pretty good, though.

Has anyone been able to space that rear panel out a bit so the space behind it can be used for storage?

I was thinking about mounting a gun rack behind there, so a can leave a rifle and/or shotgun back there out of sight. I'd like to be able to install a lock on it as well. I tend to go for a hike on my way home from target shooting, but vehicles tend to get broken into more frequently at trailheads.

Do y'all sell your seats after deleting them? I've had a 60% delete since I got my rig in 2020 and kinda want to get rid of the seats to get space back in my garage…for more toys :D

Right on. What price range? I'm not trying to rip anyone off, if they can find a good home for cheap then great.
