Did you buy the garnish too?

The garnish was actually the first part I purchased for this new truck. After a bit of research I knew the OEM garnishes are $350 (which is ridiculous) and I was considering aftermarket. I prefered to stick with OEM parts so I don't know which aftermarket one is good. I kept an eye out for months(while waiting for truck to come in) and I found a like new OEM garnish with a clip broke off(still held in place with metal retainers; zero issues) in the TW classifieds for $140. I hope this helps.

Huge thanks to this community. Nearly all of my info was listed here on different threads, great info which helped me get all parts and be fully prepared. First time Taco owner, second mod. (First was bigger cup holders). :) Just swapped my grill out this morning.

Congrats on your grill purchase and install. I'm a huge fan of the TRD grill and it was one of the first things I did on my truck too. FYI, you gotta look past some folks on here. ;)

I just installed an aftermarket pro grille this past weekend that I got from Taco Vinyl. I needed one with a camera bracket. It came with an after market garnish already installed. I haven't had any errors or issues with it yet, but I think this garnish stands out more than the OEM garnish. The silver design/paint on it is really bright. Looking at OEM garnishes online, they seem to be more subdued. Is it just me, or can anyone else confirm this too?

I ordered through Olathe and they asked for a pro vin. I gave them one I found online. They shipped the grill the next day.
my after market garnish seems shiny as well. I haven’t seen an OEM one in person to see if there is a difference. I just couldn’t bring myself to spend that much to purchase an OEM one for $350.

I ended up buying an oem garnish through a member on here that didn’t end up using it (paid about 180 and it was brand new). Do your research because some are fake. Either way, IMO the oem garnish looks so much sleeker and you can tell the difference in quality. I can definitely tell when I see aftermarket ones on the road.

People will come out and say “I got aftermarket and I can’t tell the difference”.

I also have brand name quality parts in my build so I had no reason to not go oem.

Great looking truck. And after seeing this picture, I would agree with you. Honestly when I was taking a picture of mine, I couldn’t find any angle that didn’t make it look shiny. So I would assume the OEM does have a better finish to it, that doesn’t stand out as much.
I guess if I come across a good deal or they decide to no longer over charge for that piece, it will be worth it.
I do think the one I have is working well with the sensors so far.

I appreciate your post. I’m interested in your lift, wheel, tire set up. That looks like a good stance.

Also, any information on your light bar. Those are probably my next items that I want to do.

It's funny that things like that bother me too. I bought OEM and therefore don't pay much attention to it. It certainly doesn't look just like the grill but it looks nice. Here's some pics.... maybe you'll find them helpful. I paid $140 in the classifieds, it's was like new but has one broken clip(doesn't affect anything since the push lock clips seem to do 95% of the holding.

Definitely looks better. I also had a hell of a time getting the push nuts to lock on to my after market garnish. Definitely the hardest part of the install.

I haven't seen an aftermarket up close so I can't comment on that. But your making me glad I got the OEM. I installed the push locks before I installed the grill. They were very snug. I placed the grill on a bench and supported the garnish with a block of wood with a soft rag on top. I used a socket to press the clip on and it took some effort.

I posted about the lift on the above thread a while back. Suspension is the same but I’ve changed the wheels to scs f5 16x8 with 0 offset.
The light bar is the Baja designs onx6 plus in 30 inch yellow to match the Baja design fog lights. Mounted to the lower grille portion with caliraised brackets (no drilling or cutting required). Beats the hood glare and wind noise I used to have with the 40 inch Baja designs s8 mounted on the roof rack. Plus it’s behind the grille so not easily accessible to prevent theft. 41842B5C-31B2-456F-8465-C5832D0F7735.jpg8189B0FD-CEC5-4A04-9DE5-1ABE59B0E9A7.jpg

Now I'm getting that sick feeling in my stomach, wishing I would have got the OEM grille and not Taco Vinyl and maybe waiting for an OEM garnish, or at least an after market one that's not so shiny...

There's a special place in heaven for TW users who provide obscure part numbers.

Just grabbed a couple pictures of my after market garnish and I feel like now that I’ve seen an OEM one, the difference is massive. I’ll BOLO for a cheap OEM. Haha.

I must be going to the opposite place of Heaven then?
Isn’t there a part number in the description so people can find it through a search bar as well?
I thought there was a photo with each part and part number package as well as the receipt showing the part numbers and prices of each?

For you guys with the non-oem garnish, could you possibly use a translucent or opaque overlay that would dull the glossiness of the surface? Or spray it with a matte clearcoat? Or would that set of codes because it is partially blocked?

Is it possible to buy a pro grille without any of the sensors/cameras? I don’t have those on my truck and think the grille looks better without them.

The garnish opening is on all grille’s. There is a garnish that is made for trucks without the sensor. It comes with the first model pro grille’s.
