Hello, I’m getting ready to replace my power steering pump and reservoir. It looks somewhat straight forward. Any advice or problems that you have encountered? I am wondering how the reservoir attaches to the pump? It seems from the new parts they just fit together with an O ring?

Reservoir is three bolts. Two in the rear, one in the front. Bump the starter if needed to line up the holes in the ps pulley so you can get the bolt. Then remove the return line and pull upward. Be sure to get a spare o ring. Do this and clean that screen and flush the system with a good synthetic trans fluid like dex 3. Leave the truck off and lift the front till the tires are in the air. Have someone trun the steering wheel lock to lock to manually pump out the old fluid as you're adding fresh to the reservoir.

Thought I needed a pump too until I did that. Quiet as a mouse now!

Thank you for the help, I have ordered the new O ring, I had previously bought the pump and reservoir so I will use those new parts. I will let you know how it turns out. Thanks again.

    Welcome to TacomaWorld!

Maybe take some pics of the job once you get into it? Share them here. Might be useful to others who decide to do this as well. No better time than the present to start adding to TacomaWorld KB.

The bearing is going out on the pump and the reservoir has been leaking for over a year, but I will try the new O ring and clean the screen and return the reservoir if possible. As suggested I will take some photos and post.

If the old pump is OEM save it. Aftermarket pumps are real hit and miss. Might only last a couple years. You can rebuild the original pretty easy. This thread, https://www.tacomaworld.com/threads/power-steering-pump-rebuild-how-to-with-photos.377002/ will show you how to do it.

Here are links for rebuild kits.

It’s not too bad of job I just did mine about 2 weeks ago.

I followed this video which was a big help:
    https://youtu.be/7DGbVcyD67Q

also would recommend timmythetoolman video on powersteering pump flushing and perform that before doing replacement.

Some quick feedback on my experience, biggest issue I ran into was getting the belt back to correct tension. Didn’t have belt tensioner so I had to go back and remove air intake box like 5 different times. Would suggest taking some type of sharpie and marking where the bolt is so you know where you need to go. Other than that, it’s pretty straight forward.
