Unitronic. I was never super-impressed with APR. I haven't had dealings with them since they were bought out, but the people I still talk to that pay attention to the VW scene say Uni is the way.

There's a guy around here that has a wood panelled Caprice Wagon with a similar sleeper vibe. IDK what he has under the hood, but it's BIG and sounds like it's about to stall at a red light its so lopey.

Yeah, I haven't dealt with APR, but having the ability to flash at home is nice.

APR is cheaper by $370 bucks, and AP Tuning charges $50 a re flash so I'd need to use the UniConnect Cable 7 times over the course of the life of the car to make it equal.

APR makes power with higher boost, while Unironic makes more power by optimizing timing.

This might be a buy once, cry once situation.

Going to have them to a Haldex Service and Carbon buildup service as well which is the main reason why I reached out.

I forgot about that one! I've been sub'd since the start!

I love sleepers. I have a 2001 Silverado that I started the sleeper route on, but quickly realized it was going to be a deep rabbit hole I was venturing down.

Don't want to tackle the carbon clean-up yourself? I don't blame you. I did it to my wife's Passat and my GTI. It's not super hard, just a lot to take apart. Made a huge difference on the wife's Passat. The GTI was only for practice. And I only used the GM Top Cleaner that everyone at the time recommended.

Nah, I don’t have the bandwidth or a warm spot to tackle it lol

My car was always dealer serviced so I’m eager to see if it’ll make a difference or not!

    • The camber plate itself utilizes a Pillowball Top Configuration for maximum performance and rigidity
    • The Rear Top Configuration is pressed-in rubber or the OEM Rear Top Configuration assembly is reused
    Build Specs:
    • 6061-T6 Aluminum Top Plates
    • SAE9254 Powder Coated Springs
    • 6061-T6 Aluminum Lock Rings
    • 53mm Aluminum Threaded Shock Bodies
    • Precision machine welded STKM13C Steel Lower Mounts or 6061-T6 milled Aluminum Lower Mounts where applicable
    • 100% bolt on in place of OEM brackets
    Spring Rates:
    • Front: 7kg (392 lb/in)
    • Rear 6kg (336 lb/in)

Still researching how soft to run them.

Going to look at one in about a week. '18 SEL. Black interior which isn't my favorite, I love the Marrakesh brown, but not a dealbreaker since it's a one owner/low mile. We shall see. Anything semi local always has the possibility for rust, which is why I don't usually look at stuff here, but worth a shot.

I wouldn't hold out for the brown interior. It's the best looking, but from what I remember it was a rare option.

Yeah I haven't seen any pop up locally. Such a good interior.
I'm good with the black, it wears well.
(I have seen people swap in GTI/R plaid seats which was kinda cool.)

My friend ordered his with the brown interior. It looks so good. And that's the only one I've seen.

Oh. I bet the plaids would look good. Or especially the R seats. Hell or even sport seats from the S3.

And of course a stage 1+ tune and a TCU tune.

All I can say is wow. It’s a rocket compared to before. Fat torque band and it just pulls and pulls but drives stock when you’re not on it.

I still can't get over the gains a tune makes on these cars. It's unreal. Especially when you consider what I had to do on my Mk6 for similar gains (and what it cost).

    heck yeah!

    DSG?

It feels like cheating. dollar per HP and TQ it's unreal

Also, I scooped up stock GTI suspension with less than 30k miles on it.

ordered a strut spreader tool (two versions actually), a set of triple squares, some Audi TT pads, and an Oil change kit from FCP Euro.

Now to wait for a warm day to install.

I must resist buying these with my employee discount

I've almost bought a Quick Jack a dozen times. I just worry I'm going to spend the money and not use it because it's a hassle, etc.

Whoops. Forgot something. It's actually decent to have two spreaders. I sometimes put one high and one low.

Also, be sure and pull the axles. Trust me on this. It's not hard to do. I know you can find write-ups that say it's unnecessary, and you might get away with it, but if you don't the CV joint will separate inside the boot and you'll find yourself removing the axle anyway to replace it.
