I've been in a debacle between getting a toolbox or just keeping my bed cover on...or trying to do both.

I love the bed cover because I don't have to worry about stuff being taken out of the bed (pop n lock installed), but I also have been wanting a black toolbox so I don't have to crawl under the bed cover to get to my tote...

Has anybody been crazy enough to cut up an OEM bed cover to fit a toolbox there? My concerns are how would I 'seal' it after I cut it and then I would need to make extension brackets for the toolbox to mount on the bed rails - but the extensions should be easy.

Any ideas, thoughts, or snarky comments are welcome.

Dumped the Tacoma, that's all it needed.
It cannot be that hard to do, but without some thorough planning, it could get expensive.

From what I have seen, the OEM cover has some sort of lock/securing mechanism on the panel closest to the cab, which should mean that the middle panel is “loose” since the rear panel latches.

might be a way to cut the middle panel out, use the latches on the rear panel and the front panel, and then install a over the rail box. Then fabricate a filler panel for the gap between the box and the front panel.

I bought a large storage box. Keep it in box near the back. Open tailgate then rear section of tonneau for access. Works well, easy and inexpensive.

You could mount Alum angle to tool box, cut and attach oem cover to that. You also use piano, if inclined to so that panel opens. They did make a roll n lock/ pace edwards, that had tool box option, but $$$$$

    Update: I did it.

way easier than I thought with my bed cover. Just had to remove the rear panel and ever so slightly trim a little part. Good thing is it can all go back together with no issues.

Way to go brother! I would have thought this would end up looking like a hack job, but that looks really clean and professional. Again, well done!

I got a killer deal (under $200) on a brand new Husky (102102-53-01) off my local marketplace!

That's what I was thinking too...but it ended up fitting so well! After unscrewing and removing the rear panel of the bed cover, the only thing that needed to be done was to trim the removable pieces that go between the middle panel and the one that was taken out. The weather stripping from the bed cover sits up perfectly against the toolbox so water won't come in a ton from that area. It worked out pretty damn well I was really surprised.
