Steering Wheel Volume and Tracks Buttons?

Does this seem backwards to anyone else? Or is there a good reason? Wouldn't it make more sense for the volume controls to be the up/down buttons and the track buttons to be the right/left buttons? Apologies for the question but it nags at me. And I intuitively want to hit the up button to increase the volume and end up skipping several tracks instead.

Just wondering.

OP: a much discussed item here. NASA has their best people working on this but so far no solution. In summary, it is what it is so get use to it.

Honestly, I got used to it in about 5 minutes of driving my taco. Been almost 5 years and not once I thought about it.

I mean it does mimic what’s on the head unit…

 

Remember 95% people out here only use 10% of their brains. That being generous.

 

That doesn’t bother me. BUT the left-most buttons should control the left-most screen (instrument cluster). And the right-most buttons the right-most screen (center).

No...it's fine. They even put lil' dimples there to finger the track up or down.

If you give it some time...you will just get used to it.

 

It was weird at first but I got used to it.

 

Will switching the orientation cause rubbing?

 

We're still talking about the buttons on the steering wheel, right?

 

Has anyone explained the "why" Toyota does this?
FM goes from small number to large number, starting left to right.
XM goes from small to large, starting from top to bottom.
Your BT playlist goes left to right.
Volume goes from, you guessed it, from left to right. Don't believe me? Turn the knob lol.

So, how do you even reconcile that with buttons? The answer is there is no best way. Toyota is a way. Mercedes is a way. Ford is a way. None are the best way. They are just ways.

 

I was able to fix mine.

 

So the other day I was thinking about the button layout while driving. I skip tracks significantly more than I adjust the volume, and I find pressing the button located on the top more comfortable than pressing the button on the right, based on where my hand is located while driving. I think I'll stick with what it is currently.
